Hi Mary, I'm glad to help! Mary, this is a common problem that occurs after flushing the coolant system. The heater core was corroded and the cleaner removed the rust from it and now its leaking and that why you smell coolant with the heater on. Unfortunately the complete dash will have to be removed to fix this problem. CAUTION: Do not put STOP-LEAK in the system, this only causes engine overheating problem. Instead, if you don't have the money to repair it right now, then you can have someone BY-PASS the heater core under the hood. This will give you time to save up for the proper repair. CAUTION: Do Not continue to drive it with that way because you are losing coolant everytime you drive the vehicle and will cause overheating and damage to your engine and that will be really costly. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Mary. To bad you don't live in the St Louis Mo area.

Are heater cores expensive to change in these cars

Hi Carol, what makes you think your heater core is leaking,is your antifreeze container low,if not then it's not leaking, could cost 3 to 5 hundred bucks,I just changed mine in my truck,it was leaking on driver side and my windows were getting fogged up.I had to lift the dash up on mine to do,i did it 10 years ago,so this time was easy, here's a link on replacing your heater core,Does your heater get the inside warm, does it have a musky smell?if it is leaking, then your antifreeze container will be low,has it been raining alot, you said in your other post that water is on the passenger side, rain water can come thru the intake vent. Water is leaking from the floor vents what could be the proble?

Check your heater radiator. It is usually mounted behind/near the glove box areas on most cars. It is like a small version of the large radiator that is mounted on the front of your vehicle under the hood. Antifreeze and coolant (does it smell a little like antifreeze?) flows thru your front radiator, thru the block and hoses, and cycles thru the radiator for your heating system. If the radiator is leaking, often it cycles thru the vents on the interior.
Another possibility MIGHT be the AC system and condensation/AC coolant that is building up in/on the lines and transferring thru the vents.

I changed the heating core but now my windows are fogging up when i turn on my heat and i also smell antifreeze coming thru the vents what seems to be my problem???

heating core has been plumbed in wrong or most likely has a leak in the system, as you are smelling the antifreeze - seems to me like the antifreeze is not reaching the core, have you mistakenly plumbed the intake/out take the wrong way round?, this would cause the windows to fog up as the heat is being taken away fro the core rather than being taken into the heater core

I turn on the defrost and the windows fog up and the car smeels like antifreeze. Also feels like not enough air coming out defrost vents; most air coming out dash vents. It has been using a little water...

Hey Tbs,
You are correct in assuming it will get worse.. if you are leaking antifreeze, it wil not fix itself (DO NOT put any kind of "radiator stop leak" in it) .... take it to a qualified professional and tell them whast happening and let them repair it!! (a radiator shop - NOT the dealer)..

No heat , antifreez leak not visable...

A car this new should have a warranty right? the only other place for anti-freeze to go is through a blown headgasket into your oil. Pull out your oil dipstick and make sure it is not milky in color. If not check behind the engine and see if any coolant lines going into the firewall are leaking. When inside the car do you smell steaming coolant(anti-freeze) or hear gurgling? The temp gauge that stays on is the overheat indicator?

Smell antifreeze thru heat vents when heater is on in 2000 dodge durango. theres no leaks or drips.

Textbook bad heater core symptom. Might be a blown/leaking heater hose....but I doubt it. My monies are on a bad heater core.

It isn't heating correctly and i smell antifreeze. How do I check and replace a heater core in it?

If your heater core was leaking you would have antifeeze coming thru your vents and putting a greasy film on your windshield. You would smell antifreeze the stongest if it was leaking onto a hot engine part. low antifreeze will cause bad heater performance, I would check by the thermostate housing, and the water pump for leaks

Have heat..but windows fog up when the heat is turned on..any suggestioins

Does the air smell like antifreeze? If so your heater core could be leaking. If it doesn't then it sounds like somehow moisture got down into the vents so moisture is heated and blown up causing the windows to fog up.

Good luck
