Have seen a few flood damaged cars. people buy them cheap and think they can bring them in swap in a new battery and sell for $$. Not saying this is ur case, but yeah, Sometimes water and condensation just gets places it was never supposed to. Water damage issues are totally case by case. Get a multimeter and start testing you have power in all necessary places.
good luck

E.C.U. fuse burn

Can you be more specific on the flood, by the car working all, do you mean that the electronics function? There is a good chance if your car was in fact submerged it is possible the ECU has become wet and is shorting the fuse, you will need to pull the carpet back on the passenger side and possibly the plastic cover, to expose the ECU. Check for moisture anywhere around the ECU or wires going to it. This is a common problem with flooded cars.

Ecu unit could be faulty looses half a amp over two days

It is not the ECU it is your BeCM. It is not allowing the alarm to go to sleep mode. Very common problem.

My sidekick will just die or barely run it died

last year, OBD1 car (dumbb ECU)
no scan tools for it
if you run on the road with that hack , and wreck
expect a nice fire. fuel fire.
if you used a voltmeter and say 12vdc there, all hotwiring stuff
need not be done. (
it stalled (misfire)
and then would not what? start but cranks ok?
3sp ,4sp auto or 5speed stick
16v engine or 8v, both are G16s but EFI radially different.
16v is MPI with 4 injectors, 8v is 1 injector TBI
try a new
cap,.rotor spark wires and spark plugs yet?
cant burn fuel with bad spark
i guess the cam bent did not slip as it run ok later, but is 60,000 mile belt. and will slip ignored.

next time it stalls
check headlamps they work, and all electric
then see if CEL glows key on, i must or ECU lost power
it has 3 fuse that can rust, IG coil, FI, and DOME.
the CEL must glow, is first checks.

1998 jetta. the battery hadno power for about a week. charged battery for a half of a day. now the car will crank just fine but does not start. no spark at the spark plugs. any suggestions, thanks.

The battery going flat as opposed to just being disconnected means that now its a major job and will require going back into the dealer to have the immobilisor reset .You may even need a new ECU which i doubt but this depends on your local dealer .

Starting Problem

Be sure 2 check fuel supply, electric pump submerged in old fuel will collect varnish around the armature. Quick diagnose is a short blast of carb. clean (with air breather intack case of back fire) injected through vacum port at intake manafold. Remember just a short bast.
