2 Answers

I have a 1997 chevy lumina 3.1L V6 i had the full tune up done oil change oil filter change spark plugs wires fuel filter my car was driving just fine. I went to the store came out to crank my car and it wouldnt crank. Everything was turning but i noticed when i pressed the gas pedal as I tried to crank it the engine didnt rev up like it wasnt getting any gas . I had it towed home dropped the tank tested the fuel pump andit was pumping just fine I had it put back in put the tank back up and tried to crank it again & everything turns like before but it didnt start. I had the spark plugs replaced again because they were pretty old looking & i just replaced them in Feb. I got a jump tried to crank it up while pressing the gas & it started. I drove literally around the corner to the gas station put it a little over half tried to crank it up again it wouldnt crank. I towed it back to my house had another mechanic look at it & he disconnected the fuel line by the engine on the passenger side had me try to crank it & he said there was no fuel getting through to the engine he checked the fuel pump fuse it wasnt blown .. he doesnt know whats wrong with it could someone please help & be detailed and basic with your answers I know only alittle about cars. P.s before all of this happened maybe a week a couple of days before I ran the car when it was pretty much on E if that has anything to do with it.

Do you have a reset button in your glove compartment usually when changing fuel filters or pumps you have to reset it try that or filter is on backwards

Make sure the fuel filter wasn't installed backwards...if it is correct..then replace the fuel pump..just because it works, doesn't mean it's strong enough to deliver fuel..best of luck

SOURCE: 1990 Chevy Corsica 3.1L V6- Ran out of gas- Relay, fuel pump?

Unfortunatly on GM vehicles when the fuel pumps run dry they usually damage themselves. The problem you are describing sounds like a bad fuel pump. When you turn the key to the run position you should hear the pump come on for 5 seconds and then shut off. It should be a medium pitch whine but sound smooth. Unfortunatly on GM vehicles the tanks must be removed to change pumps and depending on the climate you are in could show other problems. Here in Michigan on vehicles of that age they will usually need new tanks and sending units due to rust. I get around $500 to replace a fuel pump. Of course the price goes up with the more that is needed replaced. Hope this helps

Coils and wires are the most likely culprits as they never get replaced hardly ever. You cant really test a coil, you can check for resistance on the plug wires but that doesnt tell you if the insulation is bad on them.

Ai have a 88 chevy s-10 blazer it stall when i drive a block like it starts to cut out does it need a fuel filter, if so is it under the truck or does it need spark plugs only or does air filter only...

I suggest a full tune up.

1. Air filter.
2. Fuel filter, carbureted engine filter is located inside the line fitting where it attaches to the carburetor. Fuel injected engine filter is located in-line under the truck near the tank.
3. Oil and filter.
4. Spark plugs and wires.
5. Distributor cap and rotor if applicable.
6. PCV valve.

What does a major tune up for a 2004 chevy impala consist of? What should be done and needs to be done?

New spark plugs, oil and oil filter, transmission flush and fill, fuel filter, air filter, coolant flush and fill, clean throttle body plate and bore, clean the MAF sensor, replace any loose or cracked vacuum lines, PCV valve, new air filter, new battery.

99% of the time all you should ever need for a tune up is new spark plugs, and a clean air filter and throttle body. But since your inquiry indicated "major" I gave it more critical thought.

MY 1997 CHEVY LUMINA;S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND KEEPS READING A CODE OF RANDOM MISFIRE WHEN THEY CHECK IT ON THE MACHINE.IT WILL NOT STAY CRANKED AND HAS A BAD SHAKE TO IT WHEN IT IS CRANKED LIKE AIR...

I would first get a tune up on It. You know change the spark plugs, spark plug wires, oil, oil filter, air filter and also change the fuel filter and see if that helps.

Includes: Oil & oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, every 6 months if you drive it a lot.
At that time check spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor. and replace if necessary.

Change trans fluid and filter every 2 years if you drive it a lot, other wise 3-4 years.

Switch to synthetic oil. It's worth the price.
Don't add any "additives". They shouldn't be necessary and may actually do more harm than good.

Tune up what should all be done in detail for a tune up of a 1997 Blazer, purchasing now.

If I were you, I'd see if the previous owner had any service records. If no services have been done, you may need to get the following:
spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter and I'd also service the transmission and the rear differential. Too many people neglect the under car services especially the fuel filter and when any one of these items fail it's going to be a lot of money. These are the things I'd advise. Kind regards.
