I have a Mazda MPV 2004 van that recently had the check engine light come on. Over time, the van started to **** and shake whenever idling in Drive. It shakes for few seconds, idles smoothly, then starts shaking again over a continuous cycle. Anytime we drop it down to third or throw it in park, the shaking instantly stops. We took it up to Autozone and it came back with a P0102 code. They recommended try cleaning out the MAF sensor with some canned cleaner and also changing the air filter. We did this and the shaking seemed to minimize, but you could still feel it whenever idling in drive or reverse. My buddy had me start the van and let it run while he played around under the hood. At some point he completely disconnected the connection into the MAF sensor, and just like that the shaking completely stopped. We left it disconnected and drove it around the block and couldn?t get it to shake. We stopped at a Stop sign and he re-connected it and the shaking started once again. My buddy is convinced that the MAF sensor is bad and just needs to be replaced. We went to several parts stores looking for this part, but the replacement part that pulled up in the computers at both Napa and Autozone was slightly different then the originally part in the van. The body was slightly more bulky and the drill pattern on was off by about an 1/8th of an inch.. Both stores showed that part to be the replacement for the 2004 MPV, but it wouldn?t work. The guy at NAPA spent about a half an hour researching it and was able to match the part, and if I heard him correctly, he said it was actually used in a Ford 150 (Napa Part# XTP450028). He ordered it from the warehouse and it should be in later today. The charge is about $140 for that part, but I am not sure if replacing this is going to fix my shaking problem. From other posting I?ve read, it seems like the coils could be causing the shaking problem and may need to be replaced. Any suggestions on what I should try first?

looks like not enough fuel pressure, check the fuel filter.
and the fuel pump pressure.with car running 60 psi
the pump is located at the rear seat driver side you have to remove the carpet to access the cover. if the fuel pressure checked "OK" suspect defective maf sensor (sometimes defective maf sensor do not show errors codes)another way to test is disconecting the maf sensor and start the car (computer goes to limp in mode) and works little better,or check by scanner idle= low grams per seconds and increase when accelerate.

My 2004 MPV shaking so bad, specially when stepping on the brake at reverse or drive, and before that, the engine light was on. What do you think the problem was?

Hopefully this may be of use to you. I've just had similar symptoms with a 2003 MPV. It shook when it warmed up and with brakes applied. It also turned the check engine light on with codes P0171, P0174 and P0300 which were bank 1

Shaking mazda mpv 2003 in idle and loud radiator fan

Hello there, As far as the check engine light I would think since you mentioned it shacking that your light will probably be on for a misfire, Meaning most likely you have a spark plug wire going bad. I would stop by somewhere such as Autozone for a free check to tell you why your light is on just to double check.

Your fan issue could be several different things such as the fan motor going bad or the blades could be rubbing something, that one is a little tricky without hearing it.

Good Luck and I hope this does help you some. Allen

Engine shakes when Idling/ Check Engine Light started blinking

i just fixed a similar problem on my van there is a rubber elbow on the end of the pvc hose that connects to the valve cover you can only buy the elbow with the hose and it costs about 100 bucks but i guess they have had to replace a lot of these because the new one looks twice has strong you just have to check and see if its collapsed in on itself preventing air movement or leaking the shop will charge you 175 dollars to fix it plus the part but it only takes 20 minutes good luck

Mazda mpv engine

You need to have the system tested, but I think you have a spark plug wire that is shorted out.
