Does 1990 buick century use shims for starter, and whats best way to take out the back broken starter bolt.

it depends if the starter makes a noise or seems to be sticking when engaged shims were used. to remove a broken bolt you'll need an easy out and probably need to heat the area after drilling out the the center of the bolt

The bolts that hold the starter in are brokrn off how do I fix it?

Can you get on the broken bolt with vicegrips? If not you will have to file it flat then use a pointed punch exactly in the center to make an indention to drill a hole in the center of bolt and use a bolt extractor to remove the broken bolt. You can buy one at lowes. about 5 to 10 bucks

I have a 2000 chevy silverado 4X4 1500. I have replaced 2 starters becaule the short bolt side support is broken. what can cause this

Did you use the Shim's that come with new starters or check the gap with the little rod that come with the starterto see if the shim's are needed.

Does the starter for the 1989 clubwagon have two mounting bolts? It looks like the head of one (the top one) may be broken off leaving me unable to take out the broken starter.

Hi!!

It does have only two mounting bolts.

because of the thight space to work in the upper bolt, nd since starter is not working, what I would do is take the bottom bolt off and wiggle the starter until it breaks free, then work on extracting broken bolt.

Good Luck

How do I remove the broken bolt in the alternator of my Hyundai Elantra 2001?

This is tricky because the end of the bolt threads into the alternator bracket. You probably will need to use a bolt extractor kit, available from most hardware stores. However this requires you to drill a starter hole into the broken end of the bolt, which might be difficult to access. As an alternative you can drill the starter hole into the threaded end, and back it out from that direction. .

WHEN I CRANK MY BLAZER I HEAR A GRINDING NOISE WHEN I TURN THE KEY TO CRANK IT....SOMEONE said something about the shins ( starter),,,someone said water pump....someone said radiator

I don't see how the noise you hear could be coming from the water pump or radiator but yes it could be coming from not having the starter shimmed out far enough from the ring gear. Did you change the starter or do anything prior to hearing this noise?

Starter Bolt

Obviously you do not have the one missing; therefore I would do one of two things... Take out one of the others, if there three, then no problem the other will hold till you get the other two back in. If the one you lost is broken off in the bell housing, then you must take off the starter and drill out the broken bolt and you can get a replacement from the Ford dealer, Pep Boys or a junk yard.

Good luck

I can only see one of the starter bolts...

There shouldn't be any hardware to remove to get to the starter bolts. You should try removing the bolt you can see and see if the starter comes off. There is a small chance the other bolt is broken. It may be in a spot you can't see as well. You may have to try to feel around the starter in places you can't see and feel for a bolt.
