Why are my emissions test-HC(ppm) and CO(%) high?

High HC means its running rich, high CO usually means your Catalytic converter is clogged or inefficient. There are many reasons for this but in my experience the main one is a faulty O2 sensor giving the wrong signal to the ECU. You should have noticed that your fuel consumption had increased (or your miles per gallon had decreased) at about the same time yourO2 sensor failed. It is worth getting a diagnostic check done on your vehicle to try and confirm this. Suspect new cat needed but you still need to find the cause otherwise you will ruin your new cat

Lancer 2000 mx efi high fuel consumption

1. Check if the ECU is throwing any error codes.

Could be
2. O2 sensor(s) or/and clogged Cat converter
3. Dirty air cleaner
4. leaking injectors
5. Worn or broken rings: check the wet and dry compression.
Might even be the ECU itself, running in "limp" mode because of a partial board failure.

My 91 explorer wont pass emissions, Co levels too high and hc levels. Are high as well

have your air/fuel (a/f) ratio checked. high CO level means you have a rich a/f mixture.

rich a/f mixture means there is too much fuel compared to air. this is bad for fuel economy.
lean a/f mixture means there is too much air compared to fuel. this needs immediate attention since this might lead to over compression in the combustion chamber, which develops to total internal engine failure.

Ford failed MOT on High CO emission

High CO usualy means the O2 sensors are not reading properly. Take it to a parts store that can read codes, I know Auto Zone does in my area. If it is the O2 sensor it is an easy fix but the sensors run about $50.00 each.
