Have you checked the condition of the engine oil level? 'cos u got to reason out why is it getting hot, 'cos once hot the gas evaporates before entering the engine's cylinder and this could be also due to low coolant in the radiator. Also if the vehicle has run about 20Kmiles since u last topped up and went for all oil change etc, then might as well do it now......sodeep

Tap in the crank sensor while runnung. It most likely needs one. If it shuts off when you tap on it, you definetly do.

I just replaced my starter on my 1996 dodge dakota but it still wont start

A mechanic would check for voltage from the key switch at the starter solenoid. If the starter will jump and crank, it could be the neutral safety switch or the key switch, or a problem with the battery cables.

1993 Dodge Caravan 2.5L 4cyl. won't resart after the engine is warmed up. Starter cranks engine slowly. When I go back to van after 2hrs (cool down time) it starts right up. Its exasperating. Been told...

if it cranks real slow when hot and ok when cold then the battery is ok
starter may be bad you need an ameter to verifie it though if it draws to many amps then its bad.but i think it a safe bet starter is bad

1996 DODGE DAKOTA 3.9 NO POWER TO THE COIL

Check the auto shut down relay. It powers up the coil. But only for 3 seconds after you turn the key on or when cranking. If you just have the key on, you won't have any power at the coil.

'96 Dodge Dakota will crank, but won't run.

a bad crank sensor or dist pickup plate can cause this.... check the fuses in the fuse block under the hood for any blown ..... a bad auto shut down relay may cause it .....try putting a test light on the green and orange wire and see if it lights up when you try to crank it
