It on the back of the water pump, i think.
Held in place by a hose clip and two 10mm head bolts.
Drain coolant when cold!
Dont snap the bolts...use a good penetrating fluid, be prepared to use a lot.
Or...you tube is bound to have a video.
Cheers

SOURCE: transmission fluid check on a vw jetta tdi

Never ever bring a jetta to a volkwagen dealer. They will bend you over and rape you.

All you have to do is remove the top plug with a hex wrench.

SOURCE: how do i remove the axle from the transmission?

make sure that the engine is jacked up and is sitting straight so you can pull the axel out. The engine may be putting too much force on the the tranny so you cannot puch the axel through

SOURCE: transmission fluid for vw jetta

Go to volkswagen for the fluid.
I am assuming you are talking about an automatic transmission? if so any aftermarket fluid will make short work of your transmission.

if you are talking about a manual transaxle..then I hear good things about Redlines' MT fluid

Mt 1997 vw jetta gls won't go in any gears

Hello;
If your Jetta is a manual transmission, the clutch disc facing is probably gone. If it is an automatic, there are a number of things to check. Is transmission full of fluid? Does fluid smell burnt? Is there metal inside the oil pan? Hope this helps and rate me high.
Thanks;
Rich
