Hi Wendy, I'm glad to help! Wendy, if there is nothing wrong with the ABS system. Then unhook the negative battery cable for 20 seconds then re-connect it and see if the light is out. If it is your good to go, but if its still on then you'll need to see what the code is to see what needs to be repaired. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Wendy.

SOURCE: ABS Problems

Gary,

Just went through this problem with my Dakota as well. This is a very very very common problem with the Dodges. First things first. Replace the Vehicle Speed Sensor on the rear differential. Cost around 40 dollars at your local auto parts store or even from the stealership. Its easy to change as well one nut and off comes the bracket then the stud comes off and then you can take out the sensor. They big key is here to be VERY careful pulling out the sensor or you will break it off in the housing. You will need to slowly turn and pry it out with a small screwdriver (as there is an Oring holding it in). Reverse the process to install the new one. After you get the sensor in, reset everything by pulling the negative off the battery and leaving it off for 30 min (some require less time but 30 min is safe) to ensure all is reset. Hope this helps you.

Sincerely,

Jeremy

On a Dodge when you have a problem with the anti-lock brake system or the hydraulic brake system it turns both lights on. You need to have your truck inspected to find out which one has the problem.

The computer needs to be reset with a scanner from a auto tech. Do you know if any of the abs sensors were damaged or disturbed? If all OK there, just clear codes. You should be OK. Good Luck Fran M

ABS/TCS lights on 2002 Honda Accord Coupe EX V6. Have high quality OBDII Scanner. Should the on board system report the problem to the scanner?

Only if the warning light showed on the dash...most often these abs sensors get clogged with brake dust or dislodged during wheel swaps if the pads are fine and fluid level correct...first check the brake pads then the disks and clean the sensors with an old toothbrush and reseat, also check the fluid level on the abs system.this should clear warning light.but any error codes stored on ecu need to be cleared using obd.

The brake light and ABS light are on in the dash. I changed all 3 wheel speed sensors and the light won't go out. I hooked up a codes reader but it doesn't tell me why the lights stay on.

There are 4 wheel sensors for the ABS not 3 and the brake light may be the sensor telling you that the brake fluid in the reservoir is low and needs topping up

Are you sure that was the real problem? Sometimes if a fuse blows on a shared circuit it can cause the abs light to come on. check your fuses and electronics.

You may need to get it to a auto mechanic who can plug in a diagnostic computer to reset the warning lights.

How to reset abs light

You did not give the year make and model, so I will give a generic answer.
The regular hydraulic brake components don't generally have anything to do with the ABS and traction control systems. And if one light comes on the other will too since the two systems are connected.
You would need to have the computer scanned for trouble codes for either system, then once the problem is fixed clearing the codes with a scanner will turn the lights off.

1998 chevy express van 3500 front brakes and rear are new, front calipers are new but ABS light on dash is on, the front brakes smoke after a little while of driving. Thanks Joe

I'd first make sure the new pads are the correct size. Doesn't happen very often but maybe the parts person gave you the wrong size pads ( for the smoking problem). As for the ABS light, most newer cars will throw out codes if you wait too long to change them out, I would contact a chevy dealer or search online about reseting the code (light).

Same ABS problem with my 2006 Pacifica

Go to a diffrent mechanic! There is only one light for your ABS and thats on your dash. If the light came on after the brakes were installed, I would suspect that your mechanic didn't open the bleeder screw on the calipers before depressing the piston. This would force fluid back to the ABS acumulator, setting off the light.
