Is it common for a keyway to chew out on the crank on a 4D56 turbo diesel in the 2.5l

Only way for this to happen is the crank bolt wasn't tightened down enough, started backing out, pulley also. Or the key way was to small to begin with. If it didn't damage the crank to much, you might be able to replace the parts. And no, this is not a common thing.

How do I, set up timing gears & timing chain on 1966 chrysler 383 big block.

You use the "0" keyway, the others are for modified engines with aftermarket cams.

Same happened to me. Economic way to ensure its at tdc is to remove #1 plug, using a thin dowel rod mark the distance it travels inside spark plug hole. Turn crankshaft slightly until you can measure the #1 piston is at its highest position. You'll be at tdc.

Replaced the harmonic balancer and keyway, but the car won't start. The belts are turning all right.

Check that you have not damaged the crank position sensor or disconnected the wires to it . Check the air gap and the rotor for dirt and any thing that will prevent the sensor from working correctly.

Removing the big pully at the bottom .

im guessing your talking your harmonic balancer pulley it sets on a keyway in your crank use a pulley puller to get it off and make sure the keyway is in place when you put back together or youll end up w some problems

When you whack something that hard and the engine stops immediately 99% of the time you sheared the Keyway between the Flywheel and the Engine crank. When this shears, the flywheel shifts which throws off the Ignition Timing. You need to take off the Recoil starter and then take off the Flywheel, Any small engine place will have a keyway replacement. The keyway Cost pennies

Accent crdi back compretion started recently

try again my explorer locked up ,right front pulley behind it is the timing gear which is locked into place by a keyway ,this keyway wears and rattles plus the timing gear so the timing is out and the valves hit the pistons ,result back pressure from the bent valves ,the keyway and on the front of the timing gear is another roll pin into the crank nose and they all break here allowing the keyway to chomp away at the timing gear and woodruff key .Result an expensive repair on this diesel engine

Hi i need to know 2001 ford taurus top dead centre mark on crank pully

  • Due to the lack of timing marks you need to remove the center bolt from the damper on the crankshaft and take a flashlight or a laser pointer and look at the keyway for the damper and point the keyway to 12 O'Clock and that is Top Dead Center.

I have 2.8 td rodeo the pulley keyway has wallowed out as well as the keyway on the crankshaft. IS replacing the crankshaft the only solution. As the keyway is only worn and front where pulley has been...

You could take the old crank out and send it to a machine shop with the pulley and have it repairedwhich will probably be less than the cost of a new crank but will still need all the work and new parts that a new crank entails.
You could also take an afternoon and go to work with a small file and square up the keyways. You can get new keystock in an assortment of sizes at the auto parts store. If you do this make sure you have a snug fit with the new key or it will beat itself out again. Patience is the key here.
You could also just replace the engine, hopefully with one that has lower mileage. Hope this helps.

from memory i know mitsubishi use crank angle sensors on the balancer so im thinking either the rubber in the balancer has shifted slightly or worst case you've worn the crank or timing belt crank pulley keyway. also guessing it turbo your car.
