SOURCE: No dash lights, power seats or windows. alternator not charging. Engine runs

  1. It might be that when you changer the battery post you might not have connected all of the leads on the positive post. You might also check for blown circit breakers caused while changing the terminals.Try using a dc tester and search the main breakers for power. If you have the manual it shows the breakers and links in the bulb replacement section. JOHN-LA.

SOURCE: security problem

um i would take it to like an auto parts store and have them hook it up to the computer and it might give them a code then you will know what is wrong with it. this does not cost anything and it would be worth a try

SOURCE: car not starting

I had this same problem about 3 weeks ago. The battery only had 10 volts (it's supposed to have 12). So it was enough power to turn on the lights on the dashboard, but not enough to turn over the car. It was a duralast battery, I took it to Autozone. The battery had a lifetime warranty and since it only lasted like 2 years, they replaced it for free.

SOURCE: There appears to be a short; the car will drain a

It sounds as though you have a bad ground which would have depleated your old battery as well, by having an intermittent ground when recharging. I had these exact symptoms and even pulled and tested my alternator and battery before nailing down a loose cable link beside the battery. Finally I saw my dash lights flicker when I hit a bump at night and the wave hit me. I never saw the symptom in daylight....

You could test from the body of the car to the battery for a voltage drain with a meter but I would suspect a corroded or loose ground. I would do this by process of elimination.
Remove and clean your negative and positive cables and inspect them and the wire itself for corrosion. Then track back to the alternator and remove and clean your terminals and inspect there as well. Check for an additional ground strap and consider buying a braided mesh type from the local auto parts store and install. Then check your results and post back.

1996 ParkAvenue Buick want crank turn the key makes no sound but everything comes on radio lights have checked starter, new battery fuses

GM cars are notorious for faulty anti theft security systems. When these fail, the car thinks its being stolen and shuts down the starter. Most noticeable symptoms are the car not starting, everything else still working, and a light illuminated on the dash that says "security". If you see this light when it doesn't start, then this is 100% your problem. Go to this link for info and ways to fix it yourself for cheaper. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

Try unhooking the battery, turn key on, leave door open, then connect battery, start engine immediately. The battery saver module thinks it's saving your power!!

Electrical problem

I just had the same issues. No headlights, interior lights, power door locks, radio controls on steering wheel, or dash lights. Pulled every fuse in cab and under hood, not a one was bad. I disconnected the battery terminals for a few minutes. When I reconnected them every thing was working.
