Question about 2001 Dodge Durango

1 Answer

01 durango 5.9L

Truck died while driving and also the guages dont function. Where the odometer is it now says, no bus. When i try to scan it for codes my scanner indicates no communication with the vehicles computer. I do however have 12v at the DLC. Fuel pump will not power either nor do I have power to the coil. Im thinking the ECM is bad or crank sensor. Im more inclined toward the computer only because of the guages not working. Any feedback for this rusty old wrenchdawg?

Check the main wiring harness at the fire wall bulk head connector for corrosion. All power enters cab here. Use dielectric grease on the connector.

SOURCE: truck dies when i stop or slow down

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

SOURCE: 1999 dodge durango 5.9 cranks but wont start no

It is your computer. I had this recently as well. No Bus means no connection to the on board computer. There is a company in Florida that repairs these computers, so don't get suckered in by the dealership for 750-1000.

SOURCE: Where is the asd relay on a 2001 Dodge Durango

The PCM has 3 connectors plugged into it. Try wiggling each connector and listen for a clicking sound, starting with the connector furthest from the front of the durango, and the middle connector with a white top.
If this doesn't help, replace your PCM.

My 1999 Isuzu hombre odometer not working how to fix???? Asap

if the speedo works, and odometer not then the odometer is bad.
what is VIN/ in what country, so i can look this up.
1999 are transitional year, in USA fed laws on this changed.

on old cars, the speedo cable ran both . so if one dies only
that which died is bad.
in later years, the speedo is run by ECU, from VSS inputs
and obometer is digital and stored in the ECU. (or BCM)
and the cluster is just a digital display and if its dead , then it is dead. this display.
one even newer cars, comm errors on CAN-buss can cause this.
2004 up. but you dont have this bus.
did you scan it first and check all fuses.>?
scan it to see that VSS is wrong, by live data stream, or DTC error, driving for VSS dead.
ill not post details lacking country , as other countries laws vary on ODOMETER TYPES> big time.

Starts and runs but dies in about a minute think it may be fuel pump also the odometer says no pump 01 dakota 4cylinder 81,000miles

Hi.

Before replacing the pump, test the pump thoroughly. The symptoms you are describing are often caused by a PCM problem (odometer to zero, fuel pump warning, sometimes "No Bus" P16xx OBD code doing code scanning and CEL warning).

THe PCM is the main computer module, and among other things send power and data to odometer through a data connection called BUS, and controls the pump.
The pump can be tested energizing it directly and checking if it works without problem for a while. There is no need for testing fuel pressure because the problem is electrical.
If the pump is OK, then problem is PCM.

The PCM is expensive (about $800). The replacement is not expensive (one hour garage or so). The PCM is under warranty for the first 80K miles and 8 years. Since the warranty on the part is just over, I suggest talking to your local dealer before starting any repair or before replacing any part.

If you haven't done it yet, do also an OBDII code scanning. If you drive to the nearest Autozone you can scan the PCM for error codes free of charge.

Here one of the several discussion pages on the problem available online.

Regards.

Ginko.

No power suddenly, wont start because guages wont read

I would start by making sure that battery connections are clean and tight.

Are you getting any MIL or Check Engine light?

Also, are you seeing a message such as "No Bus" or similar in the odometer window when this occurs?

No Bus Error

All the modules are connected together to communicate with each other via the PCI bus. It is possible that one of the modules is pulling the bus down.Since the vehicle won't start it could be any one of the modules. It will be a process of elimination to find the faulty one by disconnecting them one at a time. Here are a few, powertrain control module (the one you replaced) Instrument cluster, overhead console, anti-lock brakes, airbag. Since the cluster unplugged wont read anymore, just try to start the vehicle to see if that was the one. Otherwise see if the odometer message of "no bus" goes away after each one is unplugged.

Wont start my odometer blinks and says no bus

From the official Durango shop manual......(abbreviated)

Self Diagnosis Test

Vehicle key position is OFF ,or able to pull key out.
Hold in the trip odometer button (dont release yet)
Turn key to the ON position (one notch), but DON'T try to start the engine
Continue holding the trip button for about 10-12 seconds until CHEC appears in the odometer display
Release the trip button.
Series of three digit numeric failure codes may appear.
If no failure message appears, the self diagnostic test will proceed as described in step 6

Code Chart

110- cluster CPU,RAM,EEPROm failure, replace cluster

900-CCD data bus not operational, check CCD data bus connections at cluster, check the cluster fuses, check the CCD data bus bias, cehck the CCD data bus voltage, check the CCD data bus terminations.

920-cluster is not recieving a vehicle speed message from the PCM, check PCM software level and reflash if required, use the ($2500+) DRBIII scan tool to verify the vehicle speed message is being sent by the PCM

921-the cluster is not recieveing a distance pulse message from PCM,check PCM software level and reflash if required, use the ($2500+) DRBIII scan tool to verify the distance pulse message is being sent by the PCM

940-the cluster is not recieving an airbag lamp-on message from the ACM, check the CCD data bus connections at the ACM, check the ACM fuse.

950-cluster not recieving an ABS lamp-on message from the CAB, check CCD data bus connections at the ACM, check the ACM fuse.

960- clsuter not recieving a PRND21 message from the TCM, check the CCD data bus connections at the TCM, check the TCM fuse.

999-An error has been discovered, record the failure message, depress the trip odometer reset button to continue the Self-Diagnostic Test

Step 6
Instrument cluster will test each segment of the odometer (all first, then each one seperately)

Step 7
Bulb test

Step 8
Gauge test

Step 9
test completed

The instrument cluster will return to normal operation at the completion of test, if ignition switch turned off, or a vehicle speed message indicating movement recieved from the PCM on the CCD data bus.

Hope that help you or anyone else in future.
