Hi, I'm Peter, You should have a port on your fuel rail that has a black plastic cover remove the cover . This is the port where you will screw the fuel pressure gauge to, being careful not to over tighten it. he knurled knob is designed to be used with your fingers only so there will be less chance of damaging the fuel pressure port itself. You can either borrow a fuel pressure gauge or buy one from the parts store they are not very expensive. You can then turn the key to on position but not start and listen for your fuel pump . When it meets the required line pressure it should shut off. Get out or if you had someone else turn the key on while you watched the gauge you can then take a reading. The pressure should be maintained for a while and not go back to 0 PSI if it does then you most likely have a pressure regulator(sensor) problem. The pressure regulator( some call it a sensor ) will be located on the driver side of the engine and will be attached to the fuel rail. Since this part is vacuum operated you need to inspect closely all vacuum lines for leaks.. You did not state why you want to read the fuel pressure so I am assuming you feel you are having a pressure related problem. This part is vacuum operated and relieves the fuel pressure when it gets to the required pressure. Once you have determined you have your fuel pump working then start the car and let it idle. The fuel pressure should be 32 PSI. If you pull the line off it will jump to 40. Instructions

    • 1 Open the fuel filler door and remove the fuel filler cap. This will relieve pressure built up in the tank from evaporating fuel. Open the hood. Remove the cap from the fuel pressure test port, on the passenger side of the fuel rail. Carefully press the pin in the Schrader valve (looks like a tire-inflation valve), inside the test port, with a small screwdriver to relieve the pressure on the injection system.
    • 2 Disconnect the vacuum line attached to the fuel pressure regulator. Use a torx driver to remove the three T-10 torx screws that hold the regulator to the Mustang's fuel rail. Twist and pull the regulator until in slips from the fuel rail.
    • 3 Push the new regulator into the fuel rail and secure it with the three torx screws. Plug the vacuum line into the new regulator. Reinstall the fuel filler cap.
    • 4 Prime the fuel system by turning the ignition key to the run position for two seconds and then back to the off position. Repeat this three times and start the car. Check for fuel leaks and test drive to verify that the repair is complete.

I hope some of this helps. If you state a specific problem maybe I can help you a little better. I know you just wanted to know how to check your fuel pressure but I wouldn't want you to spend money for no reason. If this doesn't help and you do have a loss of fuel pressure or your pump not running you may also want to check your Fuel pump Driver Module. It is a module that has your fuel pump relay inside of it. They aren't cheap so check it before buying. They run around $127.00 at Autozone. God Luck

There is a valve on the fuel rail it look a lot like a tire valve it will have a black cap on it and you need a fuel pressure tester for the job. you can however turn the key to the on position, the fuel pump should come on for two seconds, you can then depress the schrader valve and fuel should shoot out most of the time if you have good pressure it will hit the hood, so keep back.

1999 chrysler 3.5 lhs fuel not going to injectors

Then your fuel pump is not working, or your fuel filter is blocked. You will probably have to check your fuel pump circuit if you have no fuel pressure in the fuel rail, where the injectors sit. There is a fuse for the pump, usually in the under hood fuse/relay block. That is probably also where the fuel pump relay is located. You should hear or feel this relay click when the ignition key is cycled from off to on. Also, when the key is turned to on, you should hear the fuel pump in the gas tank turn on for about 2 seconds. This will put the pressure in the gas in the fuel rail, for starting the engine. If you don't hear the pump turn on for that 2 second period, it is probably a bad fuel pump. But know the fuse is good first.

Wen u disconect fule fillter n turned motor over and petrol came out but no real fast is that the pump gone

turning an engine over to check fuel flow only works on engines with mechanical fuel pumps
all electric pumps should produce full flow as soon as the ignition is turned on
if you have a efi car then have the fuel pressure checked at the fuel manifold as that will show a faulty pump, regulator problem or blockages to vents or hoses.

My 1994 mazda navaho seems to be vapor locking. How do i fix this

You need to know the fuel pressure. Just turning the key to on should cause the fuel pump to put high pressure in the fuel line to the engine and fuel injectors. If the pump doesn't turn on, there is an Inertia fuel shutoff switch in the power line going to the pump, so check that has not tripped.

If hard starting or running poorly problems, you could have a fuel pump that still works but fails to keep adequate pressure- a weak pump that needs replacing. If your Mazda has a fuel pressure test port, called a shrader valve, it is easy to hook up a fuel pressure test gauge to check fuel pressure. Autozone and maybe other national stores rent or loan fuel pressure testers.

My fuel pump seems to be pumping gas but my van wont start 02 chevy venture cranks gets fire an gas but wont start

Just because it pumps gas doesn't mean it is at the exact pressure it should be? Most fuel pumps have a psi of 40 to 45 psi, your fuel pump could be pumping at 25 psi or less which is not enough to start your car even though you can see some fuel pumping out. A simple tool to check fuel pressure can be bought at any auto parts store, check the specs on the fuel pump for your 02 Chevy first to see at what pressure it works, then use the fuel pressure gauge to check it. Anything less than what the specs on your fuel pump are suppose to be and you have a bad fuel pump?

Let's say your fuel pump works at 43psi, you hook up the fuel pressure gauge and you find that it reads 25 to 30 psi, that means it's not enough fuel pressure to start your engine.

No Fuel Pressure

More likely the pump is not putting gas up to the engine's fuel rail.
With key on, not start, the pump should turn on for 2 seconds to put pressure in the line and fuel rail. Do you hear the buzz or hum from the tank with key on?
Did you put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail's test port (shraeder valve), and find no pressure with key on? If so, you will need to check into the pump operation (assuming the fuel filter is not clogged). A quick test is to pull off the gas tank electrical connector, find the fuel pump wire in the connector, and use a test light grounded to a metal frame or a voltmeter. Check for power on the fuel pump wire, while the engine is being cranked over. If power then, your new pump is not working. It could be the ground for the pump, so you need to check that. If no power to pump, engine cranking, then you will have to find the fuel pump relay under the hood, and check the wiring to it. There is also a fuel pump fuse-it may be under hood or in the instrument fuse panel-need to find and check it.
If the pump is working and the fuel filter is clean, you should have gas in the fuel rail (which supplies the injectors with fuel under pressure). I have not heard of a pressure regulator problem that could cause no pressure, but then...
Post back what you find, or with comments. Hope this has helped a little.

Loosing fuel pressure every ten to twelve seconds

are you using a gauge? is this the 1.0L engine 3cylinders.
Trottle body injection (TBI) >
running or not?
the correct way to do this is measure at the fuel filter test port

ill quote the FSM
  1. Relieve fuel system pressure.
  2. Disconnect the fuel inlet line at the fuel filter and install a suitable pressure gauge on the line.
  3. Connect a jumper wire between the terminals of the fuel pump relay connector and check the system pressure on the gauge.
  4. Fuel pressure should be 25-33 lbs.
  5. As the pressure reaches 33 lbs., the relief valve in the pump should pulsate the pressure so it is always within specification.
  6. If the pressure is above specification, check for restrictions in the fuel lines. If no restrictions are found, replace the fuel pump. If the pressure is below specifications, check for battery voltage to the fuel pump and correct as required. If battery voltage is found, replace the fuel pump or fuel pump relay.
  7. Before removing the pressure gauge, relieve the fuel pressure again.
  8. Reconnect the fuel line. Start the engine and check for leaks.
end quote.

The fuel pump on all models except the 1986-90 Integra, is located in the fuel tank. On the 1986-90 Integra the fuel pump is located under the rear of the vehicle, near the drivers side of the fuel tank.

    PRESSURE TESTING

    See Figure 1
On all models, the fuel pump should run for about 2 seconds when the ignition is first turned ON . By removing the filler cap and listening at the filler, it should be possible to hear the pump run each time the ignition is switched ON . It will then stop again until the starter is activated.

Fig. Fig. 1: Checking the fuel system pressure

    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the fuel filler cap.
    2. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
    3. Remove the service bolt and attach a fuel pressure gauge to the top of the fuel filter.
    4. Start the engine and measure the fuel pressure with the engine idling and vacuum hose to the pressure regulator disconnected;

    1986-1989 Integra-35-41 psi. (240-279 kPa) 1990-93 Integra-37-44 psi. (255-304 kPa) 1989-90 Legend-36-41 psi. (250-279 kPa) 1991-93 Legend-38-46 psi. (265-314 kPa) Vigor-43-50 psi. (300-350 kPa)
    1. Check to see that the pressure decreases when the vacuum hose is connected.
    2. If the pressure is higher than specifications, check for a pinched or clogged fuel return hose or faulty pressure regulator.
    3. If the pressure is lower than specifications, check for a clogged filter, defective pressure regulator or leakage in the fuel line.
    4. After inspection, remove the pressure gauge and install the service bolt with a new washer.

    See Figure 1
Two different electric fuel pump configurations were used on fuel injected models. One consists of a low pressure in-tank boost pump in conjunction with an external, frame-mounted high pressure pump. The low pressure pump is used to provide pressurized fuel to the inlet of the high pressure pump and helps prevent noise and heating problems. System pressure is controlled by a pressure regulator mounted on the engine.
The other configuration consists of an in-tank high pressure pump which does not utilize a boost pump.

Wont idle or start without priming tbi

first check fuel pressure with a mechanical fuel gauge that attaches to fuel line schrader valve. around T.B.I. if no pressure with key on check fuel pump relay for correct operation, and also the oil pressure switch has the fuel circuit to it so possible oil pressure switch also. fuel pump has a check valve to keep fuel from going back to tank, so when u turn key on fuel pressure should go up within 1-2 seconds on gauge. if fuel pressure goes down quickly, possible bad fuel check valve, change fuel pump and fuel pump check valve (located right above fuel pump inside tank)

My 1999 GMC Sonoma step side 6 cylinder wont start after sitting for a while. I have to ingage the fuel pump 5-8 times before it will start. Any suggestions.

Your loosing your fuel pressure in the system when you shut down the engine. You could have a leak in your fuel pressure regulator or your return fuel line check valve is worn, which is located on your fuel pump sending unit housing. The other thing also is you could have a weak fuel pump so check your fuel pressure at the shredder valve, you should have 62-65 PSI when the fuel system is pressurized (engine not running). Causes for weak fuel pump, bad ground wire from pump to frame or worn out pump and a dirty fuel filter.
Check your fuel pressure to ensure you have 62-65 PSI and check to see how fast your pressure will drop, a fast drop will indicate a leak in your system as to the fuel pressure regulator or check valve at the sending unit.
Thank you for using Fixya and good luck
