Question about 2001 Volkswagen Passat

1 Answer

No power to radio whatsoever.

Touch screen is blank when key is in the ignition and also when car is on. Half the steering wheel controls work: the controls for scrolling the dash info (odometer, clock) work, but the bluetooth controls and radio controls on the steering wheel do not work. I've already paid a mechanic $100 to tell me the fuses are fine. He said something about the radio not registering when the key was in the ignition, but it would take much more money to maybe finitely diagnose that. Car has 70k miles on it. No dash lights on, no airbag light. The horn used to have two sounds, a light and a heavy sound. It only has the light sound now. The light sound used to only be for locking the car, but even when I touch the horn, it has the light sound. When depressing the horn used to have the heavy sound. I do not know if that is related. Any help would be much appreciated!!!

SOURCE: Dash lights on and clock resets. 2003 Jetta

To fix the clock and the odometer I just had to make sure there was a fuse in both places 11 and 15. I have a standard trans and one place I thought was for auto trans instrument panel lights. But both must be there. The engine check light also went off but the airbag light is still on. I was wanting to avoid going to the dealer, but I might have to so they can reset that.

SOURCE: car clicks when trying to start

When you try and start the vehicle does all the lights and radio and stuff go off? And does the starter make any weird noises when you try and start it? I would go to the parts store and ask them to check your battery if you can drive it there. lol..........they will be happy to check it out for you. Still acts like it could be a battery issue.

Do i have to remove the steering wheel to change the ignition switch on a 2002 cavalier

Ignition switch located half way down steering column.
Ignition tumbler (Where you insert the key) Need to remove steering wheel, if tilt steering need remove c clip, then there is a hex bolt securing the tumbler.
Ignition switch is a bit more involved.

Screen on radio is half blak and other side the lights work in re

Try tapping the screen, not hard. Just a tap with your finger, the solder may have gone bad and the cristal screen may just need to be connection again. If that did not work, look in your manual to disarm the radio's anti theft, remove the radio and have it repaired at a electronic shop. Good luck and hope this helps, it happened to my wife's Montana and a small tap brought it back to life. Was afraid i was going to have to take it apart. The heat from the current flow causes the solder to loosen from the board.

If I'm reading the problem right, the key will will not turn in the ignition cylinder in the steering column, Right? Try to Turn the steering wheel to left & right while turning the key. Some times the steering wheel lock sticks. if that does not work, Possibly depress the brake pedal while turning key. After that, I'm out of ideas.

1999 Toyota Camary, steering wheel locked and ignition will not turn to start car. You can turn the key to accessory and power up radio, ect. but will no turn to start car. any suggetions

Some cars will lock the steering wheel when the ignition is turned to the lock position. To try and start the car, grab the steering wheel and try to move the steering wheel back and forth while turning the ignition key at the same time. Be aware that the steering wheel could require a pretty good yank before the ignition unlocks.

    Hope that helps
