Its a 1989 nissan 240sx its out of fluid on the clutch resivor. will adding fluid bring the pedal back to operating?

If with brakes, your fluid is low, this is usually an indication you need to replace the pads/shoes or you have another problem, possibly a leak, the same goes for hydralic clutch systems. You should never have to add brake or clutch fluid.

You can add fluid the the clutch master cylinder but if it is completely empty you will probably need to bleed the slave cylinder. You need to check for any leaks and also you might be on the verge of a clutch replacement. I cant see the car so I am giving you general info.

Where do I add clutch fluid to a 1995 volkswagen Jetta glx?

There are two 5 speed manual transmissions possible in your vehicle. One of them is controlled by a cable. (there is no fluid) For the other one, you would put the fluid in the clutch reservoir which would be mounted just above the clutch master cylinder in the engine compartment. The clutch master cylinder is directly in front (on the engine side of the firewall) of the clutch pedal.

NOTE: If you are having to add fluid to a hydraulic clutch, you have a leak in the system that needs to be fixed. You should never have to add fluid to the clutch reservoir.

My clutch pedal has to go all the way to the floor to start engine and switch gears. What should I do?

check the fluid in the bell housing and add clutch fluid if needed. If needed check often and if problem still persist than you need to replace clutch assembly, slave cylinder, clutch plate whole shebang. $200. If you don't will cause major problems down the road enough to where your truck won't switch gears. But, b4 you do that check the adjustment on the clutch pedal you may only need to make a minor adjustment to where you push the clutch in a 3rd of the way down to shift/start your vehicle. listen 4 any changes when you push the clutch to the floor or when you take your foot off.

Hard to get in reverse.grindes going in 2nd gear.

Is your clutch releasing very close to the floor? Too close to the floor usually indicates an air bubble in the clutch hydraulics or nearly out of fluid. Add fluid, check for leaks, and blead out air bubbles. Have you had the oil level in the trans checked? That should be done with every oil change. Add only perscribed fluid. Stop driving it until you get it fixed or you'll have one hellacious repair bill if you toast the tranny. Ray (garage owner)

On 1991 stealth r/t 5 speed manual , yesterday shifted fine, have had issue with 2nd gear, ( a little hard to hit sometimes ) , But other than that shifted smoothly. Today all gears very hard to shift to,...

ok starting where you did... on the side of the transmission itself there will be a 1/2 inch socketed plug that can be undone to add gear oil there will be another on the bottom that can be used to drain the oil. for clutch master, standard brake fluid can be used and is recommended. the causes is most likely low fluid or worn out syncros in the tranny.. check the level of fluid in the clutch system and fill and bleed system at the slave cylinder. after that check fluid in the tranny. if all there is fine then i would recommend bringing it to a trans shop for diagnosis. if the syncros are going out then you will be looking to spend between 750 and 1500 to have it rebuilt or 2000+ for a new trans
