Could be throttle position sensor. TPS. Call the Car Guys and give them the details. They're both MIT grads and they also nuts. They will know what it is. I'm just guessing the computer but it might be a connection. http://www.cartalk.com/ Good luck!

You are commiting a cardinal sin here and playing around with something you know absolutly zilch about and have been listerning to the bar room know it all who the more they pour down their throat the more they know .take it off and throw it away as you throwing out all the cars balanced electronic engine management ny removing the air filter which is designed to perform a function and the rest of the sensors and stuff of which you know nothing about is being thrown out ,if you want a faster car buy a jaguar or a old ford cortina with the V6 engine in.You cannot mess around with a modern day car like i used too with things like humber hawks and sunbeam rapiers.

Car studders as when trying to excelarate. Maybe fuel filter but can't locate it?

fuel filter is located underneath the rear of the passenger side. Also you might have a clogged PCV box. Aslo check the throttle body, may be dirty. Could be the ignition as well. Just cover your basic steps first before you start throwing parts on the car you dont need

My 1996 cargo hard to push down on excelarator in drive.

the kickdown linkage for transmission is seized at lever on transmission..spray with a penetrating fluid and try to work loose..if not,the valve body may have to come out of trans to freeup shaft..this is the short lever connected to throttle linkage at trans..should move freely
