Question about 2001 Dodge Intrepid

1 Answer

2001 Dodge Intrepid- After replacing my alternator and battery; the battery light on dashboard stays on. Can someone assist? Thank you, I really appreciate it.

The battery light came on, so I had the battery check and it needed to be charged, a few ours later my car turned off due to the battery dying. I had the alternator checked resulting that I needed a new one that I did replace. So, now I have a new alternator and battery; however, the battery light is still on. Can someone assist? I thank you in advanced for your time and understanding.

Two things I'd check with a Volt meter,( around $ 30.) make sure the Alt. is grounded properly. Put the positive (red) prong on the power connection and the negative (black) prong on the alt casing and check reading, should be around 14.3 no higher. Put pos. on power terminal on battery and neg on engine block, again it should read 14.3 also. If it is fluctuating irratically, there is probably a short in the system somewhere, also check your fuses and resistors in the fuse box. Good luck Cheers, Gary

Testimonial: "Good evening Gary, I thank you very much for your assistance. Now, there is no possible way for me or someone else to have it checked with a Volt meter. I'm a single mother that has been unemployed for the last few years; due to not been able to find a job. I apologize for giving you the T.M.I, however, there's a reason why I did; which takes me to ask you a question. Is there any way that I can check the fuses and resistors (don't know what resistors are) just by looking at them with the naked-eye? Again, today I replaced my 2 days old battery with a new one and the battery light is still on. Now, tomorrow morning I am going to double check and see if my "Alt. is grounded properly" since, it's 11:23pm now. Thank you once again Gary, I really appreciate your assistance. Good nigh and take care. :-)"

2001 Dodge Intrepid- What does P0622= Generator F-term. Field F control, and P0403= EGR flow circuit malfuntion mean? Thank you

If you've replaced those parts according to the codes, you need to have the codes cleared from the computer, otherwise the car will think you still have the bad parts on, and stay in what they call Limp Mode! Sometimes you can take it to an Autozone, and they can clear it for you! Otherwise you need to have a shop clear those computer codes for you!

P1684, P0622, P0403, P0134. These are the codes that I got from my scanner, what do they mean? Thank you

My guess is you may have wired something up wrong, or installed a faulty part. Either that or forgot to plug something back in while you were putting it back together. In other words replacing a battery and alternator shouldn't cause the oxygen sensor to go bad. So my suggestion is to check all plugs and wires to make absolutely certain everything is put back together correctly before you sink more money into fixing what's not broken. Haynes repair manuals list all the engine fault codes so for everyone else reading this, if you get codes check your manual or head to the library to look it up in theirs.

My 2001 Intrepid seems to have a short (I think). The issue: The dash lights and shifter lights go off and on when i'm driving. i replaced the battery because it seemed to keep being drained.

t might be the dimmer switch next to the on off switch for the headlights or if you have a custom cd player or if someone has put a cd player in it recently it could be the wiring for that the wiring for the dash lights dimmer runs thru there

remove your negative battery cable insert a 12 volt test light between the post and cable you should see the lamp light this is your short.
pull fuses until the light goes out the circuit on that fuse is running down your battery if pulling all fuses does nothing replace your alternator; the altenator diodes are bad

I have a 2001 Dodge Intrepid, sometimes the dash lights come on and electrical accesories wont work.

Electrical short in the dashboard. The most likely cause is a melted or damaged hot wire. I had a honda catch on fire for the same thing. As a mechanic I suggest you take it in to someone with automotive electrical experience.

did you have the alternator tested on the car? the alternator may be good but the wiring to it may have a fault, have some one do a charging test on the car, if it still shows that the it is charging have them do an AC current test it could be that the diode is out in the alternator which would cause the light to come on and also the battery to drain when the engine is off. If it is not charging on the car suspect the plug end on the alternator ( we see them fail alot ). there is also a charge fuse might check it. The charging is controlled by the BCM ( body control module). If no charge and plug and wiring are good , fuse is good , suspect BCM......GOOD LUCK
