I have a 1997 Dodge Dakota with a limited slip 3.55 gear rear differential.I cannot find one with the same gear. Can I replace it with a 3.92 limited slip differential without causing any damage.

the problem you will run into is the top end speed will decrease and also mileage be affected by the different gear ration and also might confused the computer in the vehicle.
But if it doesn't and you pull trailers it would help with more bottom end pulling ability.

Just replaced speed sensor in differential on 2007 dodge dakota but brake and abs light syay on is there a way of ressetting this

make sure you pushed that senor all the way in. if its too far from the tone ring then itll keep the light on. also you have to drive it over 5mph to turn the light off after fixing it.

1997 dodge dakota, cant figure out what the purpose is for a rubber hose that is hanging by the rearend,

If by "rear end" you are referring to the differential housing, many vehicles have a vent hose that allows venting of the differential housing. If the hose comes out of the upper area of the differential and is routed downward, this is most likely what you are seeing.

Gear oil change milage

Dodge recommends changing the gear oil every 15,000 miles. I personally do it every 30,000 miles and use the synthetic 75w-150. Also make sure you get the friction additive from a dealership so you dont get a chatter in the rear end due to the locking differential clutches.

What is the gear ratio on a 1991 dodge dakota 4x2. V8 319

The standard gear ratio for a '91 Dakota with the 318 V-8 was the 3.55 ring and pinon. The 3.90 or the 3.21, or the 2.76 could be ordered as an option. However the most of the Dakotas, either the V-6 or the V-8 were ordered with the 3.55 non-locking rear axles. Also your truck may have had either the 7.25" rear end, having a differential cover that is shaped ( 8 sides) like a "stop sign". Most likely will have the 8.25" rear end, having a "more rounded" differential cover. With your truck being a 318 V-8 the 8.25" rear end was more common. Hope that helps.

Jack up the rear, put jack stands at the frame on both sides. Put jack under center of the differential and loosen and remove the shakles, you may need to lower or raise the differential.
