Where to put transmission fluid. - 1999 Pontiac Sunfire

Buick has been developed sophisticated transmissions through years and it is critical that you add the exact type of transmission fluid stipulated by your owner's manual (typically in the back of the manual in a section titled Fluid Capacities.) When adding transmission fluid to your Rainier, be sure to add it slowly as the transmission fluid capacity is reached quickly and it is difficult to remove excess fluid if you overfill. THE 4T40 E 4T45 E AND 4T65 E THESE TRANSMISSIONS DONT HAVE A FILL TUBE WITH DIP STICK.THOSE TRANSMISSION VECHICLE HAS TO BE PUT ON A LIFT AND LEVEL. TRANSMISSION HAS A FLUID CHECK PLUG LOWER HOUSING TRANSMISSION JUST ABOVE THE OIL DRAIN PLUG.TO CHECK FLUID TRANSMISSION NEED TO BE OPERATING TEMPERATURE. WITH ENGINE RUNNING AND TRANSMISSION FLUID PLUG REMOVE IF TRANSMISSION FLUID POURS OUT. CHECK PLUG HOLE.YOU HAVE TOO MUCH TRANSMISSION FLUID IN TRANSMISSION.IF FLUID DONT DRIP OUT HOLE NEED TO ADD A PINT AT A TIME.IF FLUID DRIPS OUT SLOWLY FLUID CORRECT TO POUR TRANSMISSION IN TRANSMISSION RAISE HOOD LOOK ON TOP TRANSMISSION ON DRIVER SIDE FOR A RED VENT FILL PLUG.REMOVE PLUG USING A LONG LONG FUNNEL POUR TRANSMISSION FLUID IN THE VENT FILL PLUG HOLE.THIS VECHICLE THE DEALERSHIP HAS TO CHECK FLUID USING A LIFT.YOU CAN DO THIS JOB BUT IT WILL VERY DANGEROUS YOU CAN PUT CAR ON JACK STANDS WITH VECHICLE SITTING LEVEL. BUT THE DANGER PART COMES YOU HAVE TO SLIDE UNDER THE CAR WHILE ENGINE RUNNING TO CHECK FLUID.IF YOU DO THIS JOB HAVE FRIEND OR HELPER AROUND DONT WORK UNDER CAR BY YOUR SELF ALWAYS KEEP CELLUAR PHONE ON HAND FOR EMERGENCY.

if this is an automatic transmission, check your transmission fluid level. The fluid should be red, if it is orange/ brown colour and smells burnt. Will need to be changed. Take it somewhere to have fluid and filter changed. If you are mechanically inclined try flushing the fluid through the transmission. Disconnedt the driver side transmission cooling rubber line from bottom of rad. place the end of the hose in a large container. Put parking brake on, turn on vehicle and put into drive. the transmision fluid with pump out into container. Watch how fast it pumps out. When the fluids stops coming out, shut off engine and put back into park. Next drain remaining fluid out of transmission pan. There is 9/19 or 14mm bolt for this on bottom side of transmission. When this is done, refill transmission and repeat. This time you are flushing all the extra **** out of the transmission. Again check thre flow rate of the fluid coming out. It will come out faster this time. When finished replace transmission fluid again with new clean fluid. This should help free your shifting. When starting the engine for the first time. Put the brake on and put the shifter in 1st for a few seconds , then 2nd and drive, then reverse. This will also allow the fluid to begin to circulate.
If the transmission fluid was dark brown or black it would be wise to replace filter when you finish flushing transmission. To do this you have to disconnect the 4 wheel drive shaft to get pan off. Try just flushing the transmission first. I will look again in couple of days for your reply.

MIGHT need a new engine-to-transmission mount. or maybe the wrong fluid was put it. transmissions are very sensitive to what fluid it has. some transmission shops use generic brand fluid while a transmission needs specific fluid. find out if they used the proper fluid. if they didnt put the right one, get it flushed and put the right fluid in.
get it checked by your mechanic to be sure.

1. check fluid while running in park or neutral
2. wipe stick off put back in check again look at both sides of stick
3. if need to add put fluid in tube where the stick goes
4. only add what you need check again

we might need to know if this is the car's 1st transmission and how many miles are on it --- but tansmissions that make noise and **** when put into gear are transmissions that are low on transmission fluid or have burnt (old) fluid - check your transmission fluid level using the transmission fluid dipstick (its location should be in the car's owners' manual).
If fluid looks dark (significantly darker than new fluid from the bottle), then drain &fill tranny.
If fluid is just low, fill tranny and monitor level for continued leakage.
A word of caution: keep on top of the tranny's fluid level - running on a dry transmission is a really good way to put a 94 Cutlass into the junkyard before its time.

TRANSMISSION DONT HAVE A DIP STICK.IT HAS A RED FILLER CAP INSTEAD.TO CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID THE CAR HAS TO PUT ON A LIFT LEVEL.TRANSMISSION HAS A CHECK PLUG.ITS UNDER THE EXTENSION HOUSING.THE OIL PAN DRAIN PLUG IS BELOW IT.YOU NEED A DRAIN PAN AND THE CAR NEED TO BE RUNNING AT OPERATING TEMPERATURE.WITH ENGINE RUNNING YOU REMOVE THE CHECK PLUG.IF NO FLUID DIPS OUT YOU NEED TO ADD SOME FLUID.IT FLUID POURS OUT YOU HAVE TOO MUCH TRANSMISSION FLUID IN SYSTEM.IF YOU GET A SLOW DRIP YOU HAVE THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF FLUID IN TRANSMISSION.THE CAR HAS TO BE LEVEL AND YOU PUT FLUID IN THE TOP OF TRANSMISSION WHERE THE RED VENT FILL CAP IS.YOU NEED A LONG LONG FUNNEL TO PUT FLUID IN WITH OUT SPILLING FLUID ALL OVER THE PLACE.

Fluid goes in the dipstick tube....at least it does in my 93 Dakota (3.9 engine). Check the fluid level when the transmission is hot, engine running and transmission in neutral

Check the Level of the transmission fluid by pulling the Transmission dip stick. The colour of the dip stick is most likely red in colour and you need to check it with the car's engine running and hot. Pull the dip stick out clean it off and check it again. always check the second reading. 
To fill the transmission, you need to fill it through the Transmission dip stick tube. Yes your going to need a thin funnel and good luck. Do not over fill the transmission. over filling will cause damage to the transmission. 
Best thing is, if you have not done a transmission oil and filter change. Have it done at a Transmission shop and you'll know that the transmission level is fine and have them show you have to check and fill the Transmission. As time goes by and mileage get's high, the fluid will get contaminated and the filter plugged up which would in turn cause a transmission failure.

transmission fluid goes through the channel where you check the fluid. you need a funnel to put oil in cressidas transmission.
