Check vacuum lines in area of master cylinder as well as fluid level. As far as valves rattling, are referring to engine knock upon acceleration? Have knock sensor checked and/or replaced.

Hi Barbara this light lets you know there is a fault in the ABS system. You will need a garage to plug it in to diagnose exactly what's wrong. Regards Jim...

Abs light stays on and track stays on have an emmission test coming up

The ABS (antilock brake sytem) and the "track" are interconnected. Your ABS system has generated an error code and is not working and therefore your traction control system is disabled also. In most cases it is a failed abs speed sensor located in 2 or all 4 wheels that is creating the problem. The codes and locations can be read with a scanner. Worse case scenario is your abs booster pump has failed and would need replacing if you want the ABS function to work. You can also try disconnecting the electrical cord in the front/bottom of the ABS pump and spray the connectors with an electrical parts cleaner aerosol and reconnecting. This worked for my 2002 Impala LS, just had a bad connection from one of the sensors from all the years. Your brakes are still working just no anti-lock feature.

Can the ABS system fails on a 1990 Chevy Suburban and that allow the brakes to lock up on it?

If the ABS fails, the brakes will lock up when you brake hard enough to have needed the ABS system to engage. The ABS works by sending a pulsing action through the brake system when you brake hard enough to lock up the wheels.
In the old days before ABS we used to have to pump the brake pedal to achieve a pulse in an attept to keep from locking up and sliding. The old way of doing it is no where near as effective as modern ABS.
You should never pump the brake pedal on a vehicle that is equipped with ABS. If your ABS has failed, yours and others safety is at risk. Get it fixed ASAP.

1998 Dodge Caravan New brakes. Front Axel removed to get to power steering pump to remove it. Got van back brakes felt strange had to hit them hard car pulled infront of me. ABS light came on. brakes...

Bad brake master cylinder could cause this, It will start leaking internally and not build up pressure. Will happen just do to age, will need to replace it and bleed brake system.

1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera - brakes

OK, if the ABS light is on one should scan it with an OBD-II ABS Brake Scan tool like Actron's ($99 to $116 on Amazon.com).

This will likely tell you which wheel has a bad speed sensor.

There could be an internal fluid leak on the master cylinder which needs to be addressed before it's safe to drive.

It would be nice to have the ABS portion of your braking system fixed at the same time.

You may be looking at a new ABS Brake Wheel Speed Sensor which is sometimes put into the hub permanently (requiring a new hub).

Brake juddering, failure: ABS or master cylinder, or anything els

i would say have your abs system bled. this only requires a computer and someone who knows how to use it. after bleeding the abs then the rest of the system should be bled. if you had a bad secer it would set what is known as a hard code and the light would always stay on.

Locate and pull the ABS pump fuse located in the power distribution center under the hood and CHECK IT TO SEE IF THE FUSE IS BAD. Basically you are looking for a fuse box with large amperage fuses and some relays. Look along the fender well in the engine compartment relatively close to the battery. It is a 60 amp fuse in most instances and should be clearly labeled "ABS" in the large fuse box with other similarly oversize fuses used for other high power subsystems.
All ABS systems are designed so that the solenoid valves in the ABS brake manifold are in safety "bypass" mode when powered down or when the ABS control module has been removed. You will have standard everyday power brakes no different than brakes built without the ABS system.

The ABS system will perform a self check once you exceed 5 MPH and the "ABS" and "brake" lamps should turn off. During this test, the controller runs the pump motor and briefly operates all of the valves. This ABS "self-test" is performed every time you start and drive.

EBCM is short for "Electronic Brake Control Module" It is the advanced computer than controls the electric motor pump and valves of your ABS system.  Burnout of the motor is very rare however. A MOSFET transistor in the EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Module) has failed, can cause the pump not to perform.

Pump motors generally do not fail, but when they do, the culprit is usually worn-out brushes or corroded electrical connections. In a worst-case scenario, your motor is beyond repair. It is bolted directly to the hydraulic assembly- a cast aluminum brake fluid distribution hub with 5 or 6 brake lines branching off of it and wiring harness.

I hope this helps before you get your hands to dirty. In short check all the electrical connections first. Try running a hot wire to the pump motor first to see if it runs and if it does, then it's not the motor and could be a easier fix by changing the (EBCM).

The ''Service ABS'' warning occasionally comes on

Have your braking system checked and cleaned. There might be dirts on the sensor part.

That fixes it.
