Glow plug light wont go out

Your diesel vehicle is equipped with glow plugs, and also with a Glow Plug Light that will either come on and stay on, or flash or blink when a fault is detected by the ECU (engine management unit). When the Glow Plug Light comes on, the ECU stores information about the condition that has caused it to come on.4 Jan 2016

Could a faulty coolant temp sensor make the glow plugs run all the time on a 1983 Mercedes 300CD?

No the glow plugs circuit is separate. They actually are on a timed delay shut off. Check the glow plug relay module behind the driver side headlamp assembly. If the light on the cluster is staying on all the time it's simply letting you know there is a fault in the glow plug circuit. Doesn't actually mean that the glow plugs are staying on all the time. You might just have a bad glow plug which is breaking the circuit therefor the glow plug light stays on. To check this use a test light and have someone turn on and off the ignition to see which plug doesn't light up.

F250 Diesel will not start cold . Has power to glow plugs for short time ,but will not start 1986 modle.

Hello philkatkiele: My name is Roger and I will help you. First thing you need to check is the glow plugs. They will need tested individually. Un plug all 8 glow plugs. Take a test light and hook end to the positive battery cable. Touch opposite end of test light to the terminal end of the glow plug. The test light should light. Touch all 8 glow plugs. Ant that do not light are bad and will need replaced. If glow plugs are burnt out then the controller will flash wait light to early or very fast. The wait light should be on for approximately 10 seconds. If al glow plugs check ok then I would suspect the glow plug controller as the problem. Also if the temperature out side is below 40 degrees the truck should be plugged in. This will help to make the engine start easier. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer as this way I know it was helpful. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

1992 F250 7.3 idi diesel glow plug relay has power to two large posts and one small post and the second small post pulses when activated. I checked ground to engine and seems to be gounded fine. Any ideas...

Have you checked the glow-plugs? On that system if one glow-plug is burnt up than it will not let the main relay in the controller to kick in.
Check all the glow-plugs make sure they are working.
The easiest way to check them is with a regular 12v test light.
Hook up the negitive end (aligator clip end ) to the battery + terminal and than with the other end of the test light ( pointed end ) touch each glow- plug connector tip ( with the glow-plugs harness connector removed ) and see if the test light lights up.
If the test light up--- glow-plug is good. If not than the glow-plug is bad--burnt out .

The glow plug relay is responsible for the duration of glow plugs, this needs to be the starting point. You should get a 12v out for so many seconds when ignition is switched on.
I have taken the cover off relays in the past, cleaned up the internals, sprayed with circuit cleaner and got plenty more years out of them, worth a try.

1995 ford 7.3 litre diesel glow plugs

the best way i have found to test glow plugs is to disconnect the wire to the plug and get you 12volt test light and put your negitive lead of the test light on the positive battery cable so when you touch the test light to any ground the light will light. so now go check your glow plugs and if you have one that doesnt light the light its burned out.
good luck
