Question about 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Bad Storm, Jeep stopped running

I was out doing some shopping and came home and the jeep was running fine. I get home and a really bad storm came through where there was alot of lightning. So after the storm passed i had to run to the store again and when i got in the jeep to start it, it turns and turns but does not start and the security key light comes on, turns off, and comes on again. Also I don't hear the fuel pump coming on and the fuel gauge is now at empty (and i just put fuel in it today when i went to the store). Also the battery meter is reading 9 Volts but I checked the battery and stuck it on charge for over an hour and am still getting the same problems. I tried crawling under the vehicle to listen for the fuel pump as my wife turned the key on and off and nothing at all. What is going on??? I've never had anything go wrong with this vehicle and now it's not doing anything. Help please someone!!!!!!

Sooo I've finally broke down and had the vehicle towed into the dealership and at first they were getting the same thing that i was when they ran a diagnostic to the computer... The computer was throwing a bad signal so they called me telling me that it was the computer..... They think!!! I told them to make sure that was the problem before i fork out close to 600.00 for the computer and what they did next was pulled the pcm out and flashed it and installed it again and still the vehicle wouldn't start, but the check engine light came on and they ran another diagnostics and this time the computer threw a crankshaft position sensor... So after all of that it turns out that its the crankshaft position sensor... That only cost me close to 600.00 after paying for towing, labor, diagnostics, and parts. So now the jeep has a very pretty 4-sale sign on it and is going online on craigslist!!!! Thanks for all the help and if anyone runs into this same problem where the gauges are screwed up, cars not starting but the starter is turning, call your local autozone and get a crankshaft position sensor and spend 50.00, not 600.00!!!! Thanks

It sounds like your problem is in the ignition. Maybe you are using a valet key or your ignition switch has failed. Often when a security light comes on it is because your ignition is not getting the electronic signal needed from the key(coded) to start the car. When your ignition does not recognize the key it shuts off all fuel systems but starter still goes.

Clunk sound when start up then later engine failure

this is called, Engine stall.
it has many causes.
1: lost DC power to the EFI system (corroded fuses?)
2: bad engine compression for many reasons but not doing the 60k service is #1 , for ever.
3: bad spark (and timing)
4: bad fueling, too much or too little.
we use simple cheap tools to find this problem
after doing the 60k mile service.

its old car, most i see are trash, 10 or more show stoppers.
bad. all ignored by owners. #1 is the 60k skipped.
i just restored a 91. and it had 20 stoppers.

I have a 97 jeep wrangler 2.5 with auto trans. The last year I have replaced the up stream 02 sensor 7 times. The jeep will run fine for a month or so then the check engine light will come on. Its always...

My used 97 jeep wrangler fuel / economy problems: My vacuum canister was completely full with crud (replace). also my coolant temp sensor was bad (twice replaced), effects fuel mixture. and O2 sensors were bad (effect fuel mixture) due to being fouled by spraying too much oil on spector air filter (now wipe off excess and let dry in sun), also carb cleaner appeared to foul O2 sensors (stopped using). Also sensor input/output signals were constantly being interrupted by battery sliding into computer harness, which I cured by placing a 1" spacer on rear battery clamp to push battery away from computer. After curing these problems my fuel economy went from 55-60 miles per 1/4 tank to 75-80+ miles per 1/4 tank.

I have a 92 geo storm and it jerks really bad when im driving it it stalls at lights and i can smell fuel really bad

It sounds like a fuel leak from a failed hose. You should take it too a shop before it catches fire.

My windshield wipers stopped working after a big snow storm. (1997 Jeep Cherokee)

You should check your fuses first. What may of happened is that the wiper motor could be frozen if the wiper arms are frozen in ice. Another thing that may of happened is that the wipers were used to clear the windshield instead of clearing it manually. When that is done if there is too much snow or it is a heavy snow the wiper motor will burn up or go bad due to the fact that it does not have enough power to do such things.

2003 jeep cherokee laredo still sputters and dies!

It could do that with a bad switch if it was making poor contact before it disconnects, but that really sounds a lot like the fuel pump is going bad...they overheat and start to bind up, then stop...once cooled down they work just fine till it again gets hot enough to do the same thing all over again. I really hate doing this online because in real life, I'd be doing tons of testing instead of making "educated guesses"

Some what the same problem

I had a Chysler product do the same thing. The computer thought the car was stolen and would not fire.
After 10 tries it did run and ran for quite some time until nothing would help.I then had to change the computer.
See if there is a recall on this!
