SOURCE: How to replace a middle bearing in drive shaft.

Replacing the mid-ship carrier bearing is not that hard.

You will need to unbolt the U-joints, seperate the drive shafts.
Unbolt bearing retainer. Take this to a good auto parts shop that has a machine shop. Tell them you need a new one and they will do the rest.

i would suspect bad driveshaft hanger bearing - to confirm, jack up back end of truck and hold up with jack stands. have someone in the truck to accelerate to the speed where you hear the noise, listen for the noise - a stethescope is very useful for this. good luck!

SOURCE: Drive Shaft center support bearing is

The short answer is when it vibrates and shimmies its bad. The bearing tolerances of a new center support should not allow this to occur, however this could be caused by an external force such as a poorly balanced (or damaged) drive shaft.

SOURCE: We took our 05 equinox

That work should ONLY be done by a
Drive Shaft Specialty Shop ,that repairs
& balances lots of things, not just driveshafts

I will agree with you, as I don't know

But a dealer will sell you the whole deal,
so I never recommend them for even a car wash

There may be,just saying, don't know, a very few that
can't be repaired.

I would pick it up & personally take it to a driveshaft
shop & not pay anything for that part of the work
agreed to.

I never had those issues when i had my trans shop,
because I followed my rules & I was a machinist
before, so there isn't much I can't do

Flywheel,Clutch &Driveshaft Balancing & tire
mounting I personally take out of shop & stand by
to see the work getting done.

AFTER REPLACING U-JOINTS & HANGER BEARING ON MY 1995 VOLVO 960 I HAVE VIBRATION AT SPEED PARTICULARLY UNDER ACCELERATION. I TRIED ANOTHER SHAFT AND IS WORSE. I THINK IT MIGHT BE HANGER BEARING ALI

did you mark the two ends of the shaft at gearbox and diff
so they lined up again
with the center bearing replacement
did you mark the two halves before separating and replacing the center bearing
then make sure they lined up again

if vibration is there
you may need to go to a diff shop and have the drive shaft balanced properly

Vibration throughout car...change engine mounts, changed centre bearing, gearbox mount, changed both front and rear couplers still have bad vibrations

check for the drive joint phasing and angle setting of the center bearing
mostly with center bearing , the drive shaft has to be split and the flange removed for the bearing replacement
the flange can be put back on in any position and that will throw out the s joint phasing
Take it to a drive line specialist shop and ash them to check the phasing and angles to eliminate the vibration
The vibration could have been from a bad joint and the new joint was not properly installed which will also vibrate
If you are not familiar with the term phasing It is when the joints are in direct line with each other when placed on a flat surface and allows the differentiating speeds of the crosses as they pass through the 90 degrees to cancel each other out and stop the vibration
the drive line specialist will know and explain it better as he will have the drive shaft to show you on

What is the part number for a carrier bearing on 1995 chevy camaro

(a little late in responding - but maybe someone will need this info).

If you mean the carrier bearing on the driveshaft - then you must have a v6 model. I would advise to skip replacing it and instead purchase a 1pc shaft (no carrier bearing). The cb is located near a Hi-Speed CV Joint which make changing the carrier a little difficult.
A new replacement 1pc driveshaft costs about $225.00
The carrier bearing itself may run $40-$140. ( http://www.fortwayneclutch.com/index.php/driveshaft-parts/carrier-support-bearings/gm/1993-2002-chevy-camaro-v6-pontiac-firebird-v6-carrier-bearing-new-f-body-carrier-bearing-for-v6-models-pn-s-3r80-40.html ) - for reference...
You could also check a junk yard for a 1pc oem shaft (most shafts there are bent or have bad uj's and will cost $$ to have fixed )
>1994-2002 f-body models all have the same length from the seal of the transmission to the center of the uj @ the diff.
>when looking for an oem 1pc shaft you will find them in Steel and Aluminum. Slight differences in length when measuring center to center of the universal joints ( 40 7/8" - 40 1/2" ) - but the slip yokes vary in length, weighted / non-weighted..etc = this will make it appear the the shafts are different.
>>watch out for oem shafts with the weighted slip yoke from manual 6spd v8 models. This slip yoke may hit the trans/exhaust mount that is used on v6 models.!!

How do you remove the center support bearing on a 1997 c1500 chevy drive shaft

The bearing should slide off the drive shaft. You should be able to buy the bearing and mount together. If the bearing is froze on the shaft you may need a torch.

How hard is it to replace that carrier bearing on the drive shaft. i have a f250 2000 superduty.

Pretty easy! Here are the steps:

Removal & Installation
  1. Remove 2 center bearing retaining bolts and remove the center bearing and driveshaft assembly.
  2. Check the center bearing for wear or rough action by rotating the inner race while holding the outer race. If wear or roughness is evident, replace the center bearing assembly. Examine the rubber cushion for evidence of hardening, cracking, or deterioration. Replace as required.

To install:

  1. Place the bearing in the rubber support and the rubber support in the universal shaped support, if removed.
  2. Install the center bearing and drive shaft assembly. While supporting the center bearing in position, install 2 retaining bolts and tighten to 39-53 ft. lbs. (53-72 Nm).
  3. Road test the vehicle and check for proper operation.

It is 2 wheel drive and is the drive shaft it has wheel bearing support is 2 part drive shaft and the noise is after 55 like every second like scraping noise

It can be a u joint,or the drive shaft bearing, some call it drive shaft support bearing,or swing bearing.Moving the drive shaft up,and down should tell you if the swing bearing is bad,it should not have no movement up,or down,or side to side.It should stay centered in the housing, surrounded by rubber.
