Question about 1996 Nissan Pathfinder

Open Question

Once the car warms up, the RPM's jump all over the place

The car loses power but not to the point of shutting off. When you apply the gas, the car sputters. This is at it's worst, when running "errands" and have to start the car and drive multiple times in a short span of time. It needs to sit for awhile in order to work better....

SOURCE: Car choke after period of

Change your Coolant Temperature Sensor. This will fix it! I've seen a few of these. It is failing intermittently and telling the engine it's at -127 degrees Centigrade. The engine management responds by enriching the mixture dramatically to the extent that a hot engine will not start or idle. You can probably smell the fuel at the tailpipe when you can't start it.

Regards.

Dying, not starting after it's been warmed up. Runs beautiful on cold engine. Replaced plugs, wire, cap, rotor and crank position sensor, no luck.

Your car cold start valve puts more gas into the system keeping your engine running higher RPM. When you car warms up, the cold start valve will stop working and your car RPM will drop. What you could have is a vacuum hose disconnected which puts more air into your engine - therefore when you press on the gas pedal, your engine would shut off or you find lack of power and then shut off.

Starter has no power in start 95 Lumina would not start after shutting off. All accessories work. I also jumped the solenoid and it turns but the starter doesnt.

You are reading this wrong...solenoids don't turn. They activate the starter...that turns. Check your battery connections and battery/charging system. The starter requires far more power than anything else in the car, so those items working won't tell you much.

000 NISSAN Xterra -- after warming up, loses RPM by 500-1000..... have replaced ignition wires and distributor, checked mass air flow sensor and OK.....

I had a problem on my Nissan Xterra 2000. Symptons sound similar. In my case, it ran fine for a while and then suddenly the engine starts to stumble and lose output. At one point it did not even have enough HP to move. Irregular idling too. Thought it was water in my fuel. Bought water remover from the store and added to gas tank. Problem did not go away. Instead, "Service Engine Soon" light came on. Had to have it towed to the dealer as there was no way the engine could keep up with traffic. Dealer replaced the "Crank Position Sensor" today. Parts $33.00, Labor: $300 (about 3 hrs worth of work). Seems to work fine now but I will wait and see. Dealer also stated that Distributor bearing appears to be noisy and will need to be replaced sooner or later. I will wait for it to go before I fix that.

Rpms jumping

Hi, I had the same problem, the car kept accelrating and the RPM needle kept jumping, I turned off the cruise control and I had no problem after that. I do however have problems with my cruise control as I do other electrical issues. Anyhow, I believe this would fix your problem. Please let me know what happens:)

RPM jumps

Does the RPM seem to bog down around 3000 - 3500? If so you have fuel delivery problem> Start with the filter.
