The dealership recommended fuel on most vehicles is 89-91 octane but I don't believe that is your issue. I would first check your heated o2 sensor and your MAF.

2001 lincoln ls sputters when i punch the pedal

sputting when taking off could be lean fuel problem caused by clogged fuel filter or clogged fuel injectors.weak spark ignition caused by faulty alternator will set off check engine light, and a faulty tps sensor will cause problems on take off it will set off check engine light if faulty.if all is good low cylinder compression will cause sputting noise due to worn leaking engine valves.

Just got a tune up and check engine light will not go off - stays on continuously.

A tune-up is no more than Spark Plugs

The vehicles PCM (computer) has been doing the
engines tuning ,so to speak, since 1981,some 30
years now

The MIL Lamp as ford calls it & check lights, as I
said, have been with us for 30 years. There is no
reason to not understand why ANY light you get
on your dash is there

They are Govt Mandated Emission failure warnings,
that require you to have your car checked for codes,
diagnosed and repaired in a few days of having
them come on

I own an LS,if you give me the codes, I will offer
some suggestions as to what your problems may be
