Oil filter keeps blowing its rubber seal

Engine oil keeeps running out at the oil filter.

SOURCE: Have a 96 buick regal with 3.1 ltr engine. The oil

Maybe have the system flushed out at a "Lube pro's" or something. If its blowing out the filter, id say something is blocking the flow of oil after the filter. Just a guess

Rubber seal not sealing properly, possible causes:

1) smear engine oil on rubber seal and refit.
2) engine sealing face damaged, check and repair.
3) rubber seal damaged, replace seal.

Are you sure the old seal was removed when you pulled the previous filter off? This is more likely then coincidence that relief valves not release any excess pressure.

What are the steps in changing the oil in a 1986 Lincoln Town Car


1) Purchase appropriate oil filter, sump drain bung washer and chosen engine oil.
2) Prepare an oil pan, sump bung wrench and oil filter removal tool (check access to oil filter to be sure that your tool is suitable.)
3) Run the engine until its warm to hot.
4) With the car jacked up and secured, remove engine oil filler cap and remove engine oil sump drain bung and allow oil to flow out into your drain pan. Keep an eye on your oil and make sure it doesn't overflow from your drain pan.

5) Refit sump bung with new washer and tighten. Do not over-tighten, and be especially careful when tightening into an alluminium sump.


6) Remove oil filter. Oil will flow out from this filter when removing, so your drain pan will need to be under the filter housing when removing.


7) Run a smear of clean engine oil around the filter rubber seal and refit new filter. Tighten hand tight only. Do NOT crank this filter super tight as you may damage the rubber seal and even the filter casing which can impede oil flow.


8) Refill engine with proper quantity of oil. If you cannot find how much oil your engine is supposed to take, then refill with the same quantity of oil which you drained out.


9) Restart the engine while checking the oil pressure warning light on the dash. The warning light may stay on for three or four seconds and then go out. If this light stays on for longer, then stop your engine and check for oil leaks at the filter body and sump drain bung.


10) Once the engine oil pressure warning light is off after starting, stop the engine and check the engine oil level (with vehicle on the flat and off any axle stands.)


11) Road test the vehicle, driving it for a mile or two before re-checking for oil leaks under the engine bay and engine oil quantity.

Oil leak 2000 alero, just replaced plug, not it, leaked out all the oil after I drove it 20 miles, please help, could it be a gasket or what


Check the oil filter. The old gasket might be stuck on the engine (two gaskets stuck together), or the new gasket might be defective, misaligned or missing.

My kia optima leaks engine oil around the filter


remove the filter and be sure the is a rubber gasket attached, if so rub a bit of oil on it before replacing, being certain that interior threads are clean and not stripped ( if so replace filter) only turning hand tight, no not overly tighten.

If the oil filter wasnt put on right will that cause the low pressure oil light to come on


Is it's leaking oil from the base gasket, yes as the oil isn't flowing into the engine.

How difficult is it to repair a rear seal leak on a 98 durango


Go buy a can of Berryman's Chemtool B-12 (Auto Zone, Rieley's, WalMart, etc.). Have tools, oil, filter and drain pan on hand for oil change. Warm engine to operating temperature. SLOWLY add can of Berryman's to crankcase of running engine through long funnel. Adding too quickly will kill idling engine, so go slow. After adding, replace oil filler cap and allow to fast idle (2000 rpm or less) for 30 minutes. Turn off engine and drain oil immediately. remove dirty oil filter. Let drain for 30 minutes. Replace plug, spin on new filter, add oil (do not overfill); start with 4 qts. and start briefly and then turn off. let stand for 20 minutes and check with dipstick. Add slowly to bring oil up to full mark; NOT ABOVE. You have just repaired your leaking rear main seal. Berryman's softens and expands rubber seals, stopping 95% of leaks caused by dried out rubber seals. DO NOT use this on cars/trucks that use the old fashioned rope seals. Ask a parts man what kind of seal a 98 Durango has. It washes the wax off the rope and it will leak worse than before. Ray (garage owner)

What is the part call that the oil filer screws on called. it seems to be leaking from there


Check that the oil filter if firmly screwed onto the engine. If not then drain the oil, undo the oil filter. Wipe the surface of the oil filter connector on the engine so its clean. Get a new oil filter and smear a small amount of oil on the rubber seal. Screw the filter into place making sure it is a tight seal. Re-fill the engine with the right amount of oil. You should be good to go. Check that the oil leak is coming from the filter before you start as it could be something more serious eleswhere like the head.

Instructions on performing an oil chane on a 1993 crown victoria


Lift the front of the car and support it on jack stands. Open the hood. Run the engine for a max of 5 mins. The goal is to warm the oil without making it (or anything you may touch) too hot (avoiding burns). remove the oil filler cap on the valve cover.

Put a pan below the oil filter (drivers side on the 4.6l v-8 engine). Unscrew the oil filter with a suitable oil filter wrench. Counterclockwise rotation will remove it. allow the oil in this area to drain fully.

Move the pan under the engine's oil pan. At it's lowest point there will be an angled bolt. Carefully loosen the bolt (counterclockwise rotation). Expect a healthy stream of oil to flow out quickly. Dont drop the bolt, it has a magnet on the end that will show if you have and metal debris in the engine oil. A few little flakes are nornal, chunks are not and indicates some engine problems.

When the oil has drained out, replace the bolt being careful not to overtighten (it's easy to strip the threads then you will have bigger problems). The washer on the bolt will seal from leaks so no need to overtorque it.

Next fill the filter with fresh oil and rub a slight amount on the rubber gasket seal at the perimeter of the filter. Install the oil filter until the gasket seal touches the milled face of the engine block. Turn 1/4 to 1/2 turn further to seal correctly.

Fill with the required amount of oil. Install the oil filler cap, visually inspect for any oil leaks. If none, start the engine and make sure the oil pressure dash light goes out (or the needle indicates pressure) within 5 seconds. If not, turn off engine quickly. If oil pressure is good, let it run for 1-2 mins. Turn it off, check under the car, and around the fliter for any fresh leaks. With the engine off, check the oil level on the dipstick with the car on level ground. If you need a little more oil to keep the level in the marked area on the dipstick, add some. DO NOT overfill the engine. Engine damage will occur. If you've put too much oil in, remove the drain bolt (as explained above).
Drop your used oil off at a collection depot (dont pour it down the drain, it's totally toxic to organic life).

You're done.

4.3 oil filter blowing seals


before you put the filter on pour oil into bottle lid and pour on the rubber seal and use your finger to rub oil on seal. it should work
