SOURCE: Car won't start after filling up the gas tank.

Just helped a friend fix this exact same issue on his 2004 hyundai santa fe. Replaced the purge control valve - a $39 part, even from the dealer. Had to get our hands dirty, but it took literally one single hour to replace the part. Filled it up immediately afterward and no more starting problems. Part is located directly behind the manifold - top, rear of the engine compartment - just between the engine

Have you tried to start it? After that long, the gas in the tank is going to be no good. I know that for sure. It will need to be drained. Let me know what is going on. I am here to help.

My 1988 Nissan Sentra E16i will not run. The Engine turns over and may start to run but slowly begins to cough before dying. There is very old fuel in the tank but I have added a fuel stabilizer and mixed...

Water condenses in tanks not completely full & petrol degrades to "near enough" kerosine if left for too long. Also lacquer in the petrol forms a film on filters etc. So you probably have a system filled with water & lacquer now. Suggest drain tank & full flush of lines & filters.
Injectors (if fitted) may need cleaning too. It ran before all the gunk worked loose and clogged everything.

Nissan pulsar '88. replaced starter motor, then

Is it a manual, or an automatic? Earlier Nissans sometimes have a problem with the neutral safety switch (a device that keeps the engine from rolling over in gear or without the clutch depressed.) Generally, if their bad, they need to be a little warm before they'll start, like setting in the sunlight for a few hours.

Good Luck!

Car trouble

Change the fuel filter, sometimes when big tankers unload fuel it disturbs the water & sediment on the bottom of storage tanks. It can take at least an hour to settle out & if you are unlucky to fill up at the same time nothing but bad can happen. Your filter is probably blocking up. Good luck!

1999 Toyota RAV4 losing power not stalling it is stumbling & new fuel filter & fuel pressure stays at 46psi

As a quick test,fill-up the tank and do not top off.

Monitor the stalling problem.

If you're starting OK until BELOW 1/3 of the tank then it's a weak/failing fuel pump

Are you topping off the tank (MAX OUT) of while you're filling?

The emission control system can soak with gasoline if you over fill.

Locate the emission line that lead to the charcoal canister and let it air out under direct sunlight.

After 1-2 hours, reconnect the line and use starting fluid to start the car.

After 10 minutes of warm up time, then take it for a short test drive.

88 Toyota Corolla backfires through carburetor.

If that is carbureted, and has a mechanical fuel pump, try running a length of fuel line from inlet side of pump to a gas can that has fresh, clean fuel, and if it runs good that way, you know problem is most likely in the tank. Removing the tank & cleaning it out is best solution from there. I'd even be tempted to add a small bottle or 2 of Lucas Fuel Sytem Cleaner to first fill in clean tank, just to help clean lines as well as carb.

Sediment from the bottom of the tank could be blocking your fuel filter. Replace your fuel filter.

Will not start without starting fluid

Try Running a Couple of Cans of B12 Chemtool through a Full tank of Gas one Can at a Time. I use this in ALL my Vehicles at every other Fill up and it keeps the Valves and Fuel System Clean all Year long. You can get this at your Auto Parts Store or Wal-Mart in Automotive. It will Clean up the Valves and Plugs and should Eat away that Carbon Build up. Could even Help with the Starting Problem also. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
