2002 fuel pump issues

Hi Brian,
I am having the same problem....except I was told it was the fuel pump that was going. I only just reached 70,000 miles on my car. I was told that when the fuel pump gets hot, it shuts down.

Now their saying Fuel Pump!!! is this possible? I recently replaced the crank shaft sensor and some type of potition sensor and we are still having the same problem.. high RPMs, cutting out while driving...

Ouch! Bummer. Why I avoid dealers. Is that the same shop saying "fuel pump"? Surely they would have done a fuel pressure test with a pressure gauge? That would confirm if the pump is bad or not. I'd kind of lean towards the aftermarket sensor. A lot of cars just don't work right except with dealers' OEM parts, especially electronic parts like your CPS. Then again, seems like the dealership would be able to test that with their expensive equipment.

I own a 2006 Mercury Mariner Hybrid with CVT. What is the factory maintenance schedule for the transmission? Dealer is telling me it needs service at 70,000 miles and when purchased I was told it would be...

All Transmissions get the fluid changed at 30,000 miles

I really am not familliar with Hybrids, but if the Dealer
told you 70,000 miles, you can be rest assured that, that
is at the high end, mileage wise,as they usually tell you
that it never gets changed or changed at 100,000 miles

Both of which most trans fail long before ,along with
steering racks ,because of no fluid changes.

I'm guessing it takes special fluid

There are plenty of web sites to answer all
those questions any way you want.

3-4 weeks ago I had my 70,000 mile check up. I was told I needed a battery and the test had a number of 415. Monday I was on the way home from work and the car started to die with the battery picture and...

You may have a case but you would need the old parts and would need an independent shop to verify their condition (in writing). You would also need a written record of what the firestone people told you.
You could then either file a complaint with your state DMV or file in small claims court.
Otherwise, you have just paid for an important lesson about using "chain" shops instead of a well established honest independent one. Radiator caps do not explode. Only way anything can explode is if the head gasket failed and that would have given you some symptoms long before it reached that point.

Won't start, not battery 2007 gmc yukon denali with 70,000 miles

You didn't say if it crankes over if it dose check for spark. If you have no spark replace your distriburator modual. Also check for fuel pressure no fuel pressure may need a fuel pump in fuel tank hope this helps CJ

Gas not getting to engine used starter fluid ,started then died. was driving fine ,stopped at a stop sign, started to go sputtered and stopped. like I was out of gas. have 1/2 tank. added dry gas , no help....

sounds like your fuel pump, normally fuel pumps die gradually not just like that, so best check fule pump fuses first, also i can not remeber if these have a fuel cut off switch, this is normally located arround the fire wall it looks like a red or black rubber button, if you have one you can press that and see if that sorts it, if not then it more than likley is the fuel pump and will possibly need replacing, but check the other things first, better a new fuse than a new pump...hope that helps a bit

What to do when car reaches 70k miles

At 70,000 miles I would perform the following maintenance if you have not already done so. Have the transmission fluid & filter changed. Replace the fuel filter. Replace the spark plugs and inspect the wires. Replace the wires if they appear cracked or damaged. I am assuming you have done regular items such as oil, air filter changes and inspected the brake system.

Topping off the gas tank can make a sensor go bad and the light come on. Some about a recovery system in a Toyota. It's down by the gas tank.

2003 Honda Civic -LX Timing belt

90000 Miles on the Timing Belt. Do not let this go! A timing belt failure can cause internal engine problems.

Should cost around 200 or so, depending upon your local labor rates.

Good Luck!
