Sounds like you roached you timing belt. Of course the engine will not run until you replace the belt.

SOURCE: Is the serpentine belt and the timing belt the same thing?

Your serpentine belt and timing belt are not the same thing. If your serpentine belt breaks, you will lose your alternator, your cooling system, air conditioning, and your power steering. In turn, it will leave you stranded in a very short period of time.

THE ENGINES THROTTLE BODY HAS A TPS WICH IS CALLED A THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR

It has a built in reostat inside of it which can get a flat spot anywhere in its circuit explaining why your car hesitates or sounds like it is ready to stall out
'
I would replace it and have the voltage set at 1.5 volts when set at the idle position
Then it should run fine again

How to replace serpintine belt on 1999 mercury mystique 4 cyilender

first make sure you have the correct belt for the application. then make sure you are installing the belt the correct way, going to and around the correct pulleys. there should be a decal under the hood somewhere that shows the routing of the belt it may still be there and not missing.

I have a 1999 mercury mystique it was ideling and made screaching sound the smoke under hood now serpentine belt wont turn

Sounds like a pulley locked up on you.at this point, if you're going to do it yourself, take a pic of belt or draw a diagram showing the belt routing....remove belt and see what pulley is frozen.my guess is gonna be the alternator. .

My 2001 chrysler 300m started smoking under the hood then overheated and now wont start just makes a clicking sound

Will the engine crankshaft turn if the serpentine belt is removed ? One of the accessories may have locked up.
You could also have a damaged water pump which burned the timing belt.

Screeches sometimes when i start it

The screeching sound that you hear is a warning that the serpentine belt that drives a lot of the moving parts under the hood needs to be changed. You can do this your self just be sure to get the correct belt and make a diagram of how it hits each pully so you can reinstall exactly the same way. If you look around under the hood, or in your owner manual you will find a diagram that shows exactly how it goes.

Replacing the belt tensioner and serpentine belt in a 1999 mercury mystique but the belt is still loose how do I get it to tighten

You either have the wrong belt, or it's not on correctly. Make sure all of the pulleys are secure. (Like the power steering pump support bracket isn't loose) The diagram for the belt is usually under the hood.

Smelled mild burning, lost antifreeze - engine temp Hot. I looked under car and noticed a serverly frayed Belt - NOT the big surpentine belt - another small belt on the driver's side. 1999 Mercury Mystique...

For the 1999 Mercury Mystique Water Pump Belt on 2.5L V6 Engine:

Probable Causes: Belt: worn out, started slipping. Overheating caused by failure of Belt. Lost antifreeze: caused by failure of belt, not turning Water Pump Pulley, not circulating anitfreeze, which resulted in overheating.

Click on the following free direct Link. It has the Serpentine & Drive Belt Diagrams and Tensioners for your 2.5L Engine.
Scroll down the Page (about 1/3rd down) to Diagram #G99H08189, it shows the specific Water Pump Belt.
Note the Tensioner.

Belt question

You should clarify which engine it is, and you can look under the hood near the radiator for the serpentine belt instillation diagram that is on a sticker. Rick
