Question about 1999 Ford Explorer
I was checking door locks as driver side doesn't unlock. Now wont start and lights blink on and off approx. every five seconds
Sounds like an anti-theft issue. Make sure you are not using an aftermarket key. There is a technical service bulletin01-6-2 which pertains to the problem.

Sounds like a problem with your vehicles security system. Bring to dealer. Push rod for drivers side door has probably broke. Try disconnecting battery to reset system. If security system is custom, look for valet button, press while trying to start.

try taking apart and cleanig all contacts first. make sure you are getting power to switch. Sounds more switches are going bad. They usually last about 5 to 7 years before they start going out.

HI, I'm reading your problem,
Let me explain something about your car.
2005 Ford Taurus, The key on that car has Chip inside of the key and receiver on the ignition switch,
Check if the key you are trying to use is Black and has a plastic head.
If not you need a key with that characteristics.
But if you have the right key, Remenber if you had drop on the floor, or hit with something,
Because some times they come damaged, with insignificat thins.
Remenber if you left the key close to a magnets like speakers.
If nothing aply at your case, you need to call a place Aloha Smith, they have the computer to program or reprogarm your key. IF not you can't start your car.
OK.. I hope this information work for you.
Thank's for submit yous question on fixya.com

sounds like the rods are disconnected the clips hold the rods in place the latching mechanism holds the handle in place as well did you replace the speakers or did a shop? if a shop did then they caused this if you did then you may have caused this either way untill you reattach the rods none of it will work. you will have to manually open the door at the latch from inside teh door behind the panel.

SOURCE: 1998 Ford Explorer Door Lock
Hey guys , i got one that i think i know whats wrong but i want to check with others to see, ok so here it is my lock switch on the drivers side only unlocks the doors it does not lock but all the other lock switches in the car fully work so im thinkin maybe its the driver side door lock switch.
This is a common problem with this model. If you access the wires in the boot between the door you will find a broken wire about an inch from the connector. Hope this helps!!
