SOURCE: fuel pump

The fuel pump module contains the fuel pump and the fuel tank level sender for the guage and all the connections for it and the cap. The noises that you hear are the pump working and it is most likely because it is vibrating. This a common occurance and is annoying. There is very little chance that it is an idication of a failure that is coming. During manufacturing there is supposed to be a vibration damper that is installed to keep the pump vibration from transmitting to the hard fuel lines. Your pump might not have had that.

My 2001 xterra started making a weird sound between 20 and 35 mph. It sounds like there is a leak in some pressure system.

Common Car Noises and Their Likely Causes Noise More Details Likely Cause Fixing It Clicking noise while turning Starts faint, gradually becomes more noticeable until very loud Failed outer CV joint (constant velocity joint) due to torn boot (most likely) or old age Replace either the whole axle assembly (recommended) or the outer CV joint Water pump noises Difficult to diagnose because of water pump's location Noise usually caused by damage to the bearings in failed water pump Only cure is replacing it. If possible do it at the same time as a timing belt replacement to cut down on labor costs Squeak or squeal from an engine belt Loud, high-pitched squeak or squeal Belts either need adjustment or replacing If belts only squeak when damp, they probably just need adjustment. If they squeak constantly, they probably need to be replaced Exhaust heat shield noises Rattle that you hear when car is idling Damaged heat shield Replace heat shield

Constant buzzing motor sound in trunk of 1990 Mustang LX Convertible when car is running

Hi Marc-
The sound you are hearing MAY be the electric fuel pump in the tank that is supplying gasoline to the motor.
It should not be making a noise when normal, but may be needing replacement shortly.
Hope this helps!

What are some symptoms of Fuel Pump going out in a 2001 Chevy Lumina??

The pump would not be providing fuel to the injectors.
The pump relay could be making the noise. The relay is in the fuse box on the passenger side of the radiator.

The fuel pump on my 1988 crown victoria runs constantly when the engine is running and pump is very noisy. When i turn the key on, the pump runs then stopps but runs constantly when engine is running. Why?

The fuel pump is supposed to run constantly when the engine is running. It is pumping fuel to the engine which is in constant need of fuel. It is starting when the ignition is turned on and then shuts down after a few seconds if you do not start the engine. This is exactly what it is supposed to do. You have no problem except for the pump being noisy. On a car that is 22 years old, I would suspect the fuel pump is failing and the noise you hear is it's death nil. Change the fuel filter and if the noise continues be prepared to have the pump replaced. It may fail suddenly or it may become hard to start. If you have never had it replaced just go ahead and do so, to prevent being stranded and a towing fee when it does fail.

I replaced the fuel pump in my 1992 Pontiac Grand

Some times this noise will stop later, but if it does not stop ,within 25 miles,it most likely will not, take the pump back as a defective part for exchange.

I think that vehicle has 2 fuel pumps. The secondary pump is located under the spare tire this was on a 92 GLi 16V, I'm not sure what engine you have but worth a look.

Fuel pump sounds like its stuck on hear that constant buzzing?

That is the classic Gm fuel pump. You'll have real problems when it stops making noise, that's when it won't pump anymore. Changing the pump will reduce the noise. You never know when that old pump will die.

sounds like you may have to replace your fuel filter is it origional or have you replaced it before ? if the fuel pump is screaming then there is usually a restriction in the line sometimes caused by dirty fuel filter , its also possible that the electric fuel pump is on its way out they will screem when they are ready to retire first replace fuel filter and monitor the sound if it comes back after replacing the filter then you will need to have a pump replaced .also check the level of fuel in your tank when you hear the noise sometimes the level of gas in the tank drops leaving the fuel pump unsubmerged in the fuel making it easier to hear the noise follow me . replace fuel filter and diagnose the sound from there thanks for using a fine web tool like fixya
