My speedometer works but my digital odometer does not work on my 2003 old alero

This is one guy's advice: Replace the speedo head, that should take care of the problem."

This site is also interesting because the guy said
General Motors cars had instrument cluster problems from 2003 through 2006. When I researched instrument cluster problems on the Internet what I found raised concerns in me. Many of those vehicles had problems that began with the instrument cluster, but eventually led to the engine refusing to start.
(an electronic instrument cluster, digital instrument panel or digital dash for short, is a set of instrumentation, including the speedometer, that is displayed with a digital readout rather than with the traditional analog gauges. Many refer to it simply as a digital speedometer.)

I have a 2004 Chev Tahoe, the instrument panel is sporadically going on and off, no gauges work, nor do the information digital windows. I had a diagnostic done at the deal when it started acting up,

This is a common problem with this make and model. The problem could be the instrument cluster itself because they are not made very sturdy. They also can have parts on them that fail like capacitors. Then some of them can have problems with grounding connections at a common point called the bus. You can send the unit in and have it redone by people that specialize in this problem or you can order a new instrument cluster.

Why doesn't my instrument panel work properly. It goes on and off

sounds like you may have a instrument cluster panel problem and will have to go to a shop that can fix it. its possible that there is a contact problem with the cluster to body connection.

Tall instruments jump all over, for example ill be stopped at a red light speed will show 70 miles an hour, gas will show empty, temp will be pegged out,one minute later every thing is normal.help!!!!

Unsure what you mean by Tall instruments. Meaning digital gauges or the
standard needle gauges?
Being that this problem happens to more than one gauge at the same time
and returns to normal at the same time, tells me that it might be a loose
connection grounding the instrument panel, in which could be like a needle
in a haystack to find.
One other possible way, is to check ALL fuses related to the instrument
panel for looseness, not blown, since your gauges work sometimes and
sometimes not. Hope this helps.

2003 F-250 instrument cluster...

it sounds like you are getting a surge of voltage from your alternator/generator. Very strange.

the dealer can run a diagnostic test & pull fault codes or you can try this. If this helps, please report back & rate as fixya. Thanks. I am curious what you find as root cause. Good luck.

Instrument Cluster Self-Diagnostic Mode
To enter the instrument cluster self diagnostic mode with the engine off, depress and hold the odometer reset button. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position and hold until the gauges sweep (within five to eight seconds). Depress the reset button once to advance to each stage of the self-test.
Turn the ignition to the OFF position to exit the instrument cluster self-diagnostic mode. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics.
