Question about 2001 Dodge Caravan
Where do I go from here?
HI, disconnect one of you battery cables for 5 minutes and this will reset the brain box. If this does not work, the transmission may be on its way out. This year of vehicle had problems with specific trannies that will fail every 70-80k miles unless rebuilt correctly. Hope this helps.

check the rear differential as well as the transfer case...you may have broken something in both of them...i have seen it happen...since 4low uses a different gear it is possible for it to move in low and not 4 high

I had the same problem, drove home just like you did, took it to my mechanic and he changed the "speed sensor " problem solved. "

i would try somthing simple first. sound like the tranny filter is cloged and it is taking awile for the fluid to get to the gears. change the fluid, filter and gasket first as would any other shop. easy to do also.
