The engine # is stamped into the block at the front, next to the transmission.

The serial number is stamped on a cast pad on the cylinder
block. Look on the left side of the engine between the two center exhaust ports
(numbers 3 and 5). There you will find the engine serial number. The engine
compression ratio is also stamped above the serial number.
