Question about 2001 Saturn L-Series

1 Answer

Re: 2001 Saturn L-Series About a year ago I had to have the BCM replaced by the dealership. I began to see the "security" light on the dash shortly after. I took it back to the dealer and was told the Key Switch Assembly was bad. My question is can I replace this myself and possibly get the part at the dealer to be keyed, or do have to have the dealer do it and pay through the nose?

Purchase you a repair manual from Auto Zone purchase the switch assembly from ebay or from a salvage yard and replace it yourself. I was just lkie my wife, I knew where to put the gas, unless it was full service. Then I purchased a 1996 Mercury, purchased a repair manual and being doing all my work on the car.

After a heavy rain, I found water dripping behind my glove box flowing down on cables and connectors close to the PCM (or BCM)and other things in my 2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE 6 Cylinders SFI. It cause

That's because water is soaking the BCM. Where the security is programmed. First fix the water problem. You will have to remove the wiper arms, remove the wiper bezel. On the passenger side there will be a piece of molding that as fell off. down by the cabin filter (replace it also). use silicone and replace the molding back to the ledge right above the filter. This will fix the water problem. Next fix the BCM. It is under the dash directly below where you were just working. Remove the three plugs, dry them out(hair dryer?) Pull the BCM out (Black box, just pops out to the side). Cut the tape and open it up, remove the board. Dry it also. Also if you see ANY white to light green discoloration on the board. Brush it of with a tooth brush, Be very nice to this board. $300+ to replace it and have it programmed. Doing this will get rid of all the security problems and lights. I've done it to many times.

What could it be bcm maby ?

If it is that , it's easily removed from just above the glove box. That apart the door, and interior, it's clipped into the plastic cover just above the interior. Couple of screws an you've got it.

Why are dashboard lights flickering on saturn 2001

Your Body Control Module is failing. Your unit is behind the glove box up toward the top. Replacing this BCM is easy, but you'll need the dealership to adapter the unit with your car.

Body module replaced but only partially functional, has been to several shops but no one seems to communicate effectively with the new module. Is there someone in this area who is good with saturn...

When you replace modules they have to be programmed to your car. A BCM will partially work, but not completely until it's programmed. I only know of dealerships that do this, I yet to find a garage that has the equipment to do this. Usual cost to program is around $100.00

I need to replace a computer brain box for my 2001 Saturn L series Wagon. I'm thinking it is located behind the glove box on the passenger side but how do I get to it?

The ecm is buried under the passenger side windshield cowling. The bcm sits on top of the glove box. Your 4cyl engine uses a timing chain that may have suffered from lack of lubrication due to poor oiling controls. Although you're describing a symptom, ecm's rarely fail ($$$), as your description may have everything to do with the bcm and the factory security system; starting, running then stopping. Have you reviewed your owner's manual for resetting the security system?

Jumping on ecm replacement won't be as easy as you may think as there's a factory security feature that forces all the system computers to communicate with the body control module (computer) before allowing the new kid to work. There's a relearn routine that's part of replacement procedures and unless your ecm find gives you this information, you'll be in more trouble than you can imagine.

Saturn L300 2002-security light blinks, running lights blink,

Several GM products, including the Chevrolet Impala and Malibu, the Oldsmobile Alero, the Pontiac Grand Prix, and Saturn Ion, have issues with the Security light coming on. This is many times an indication of a failing Body Control Module (BCM). Initially, the Security light will come on then go off, progressing to a constant on light, before the car will refuse to start. Other symptoms may include erratic action of electronics, a clicking sound coming from the glove box, and the air conditioning failing to blow cold air. I recommend a shop that specializes in the electronic systems of vehicles to diagnosis and make the necessary repairs. They should keep the car until they replicate the symptoms described. A new BCM from GM should cost about $230; plan on another $200 for them to diagnose the problem, replace the unit, and program the new unit. The dealers quote between $700 and $1,100 for the same repair. My experience and the experiences I have read on the internet, indicate the new BCM should last only about a year.

Security light just came on and stays on

i see you have multiple problems most of them are caused by your body communication module (BCM). It is more than likely shorted internally. Needs to be reprogrammed after it is replaced
