if its a four cylinder(lets hope)the specs are 80-90ft.lbs torque.if its a six cylinder it is 14ft.lbs torqueat 90 degree intervals then repeat until correct torque has been reached.bad news is you can not use the same bolts on the six cylinder engine.have to be new to keep from breaking them

The haynes book is not recommended since there are numerous mistakes and they still will not update. One of the biggest is the firing order.

The factory service manual is the only way to go.

Head bolts - 46 - 50.5 lbs (there is an order sequence for the bolts)

Intake & exhuast manifolds- 13.5 - 20 lbs

Flywheel - 41.5 - 47 lbs

Clutch cover - 13.5 - 20 lbs

Camshaft & Crankshaft Timing Marks On
1995-97 Kia 2.0L VIN 1 Engines

The AERA Technical Department offers the following information regarding camshaft and crankshaft timing for 1995-97 Kia 2.0L VIN 1 engines. The camshaft sprocket/pulley for this engine has four markings that may be considered for cam/crank timing. Only one of those markings is correct.

This cam sprocket Part # 0K97212425 has multiple markings to allow use in more than one engine. The correct marking for this engine is the #2 as shown in Figure 1 below.
If the sprocket was removed from the camshaft for correct installation note the 12? o?clock positioning of the cam dowel pin. To secure the sprocket on the cam, hold the cam in position with the use of a nut driver and tighten the lock bolt to 42 ft/lbs (56 Nm) as shown in Figures 2 & 3 below.

Instruction changing timing belt 1979 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloz?


With Cam Caps loosened, FIRST loosen timing chain tensioner, press it in to loosen tension, Crank using ratchet to TDC (Top Dead Center on crank pully, (to keep from damage to pistons), align Exhaust Cam Timing Mark to mark on #1 Exhaust cam cover, then take up slack between Exhaust & Intake Cams (on top between the cams), Then align the Intake Cam to mark on #1 Cam Cap, "Now" loosen the 17mm bolt to tighten timing chain, rotate engine using rachet two times, reset TDC at the crank, and look at "Cam Timing Marks on both the Exhaust, and Intake Cams. If you did all this correctly the "Timing Marks" should be lined up so TDC,Exhaust, and Intake marks are all the same.

Head bolts are torqued in 3 steps, 1-18ft.lbs, 2-60 degrees, 3-60 degrees, camshaft caps-10-11 ftlbs, intake manifold-12-17ftlbs, exh manifolds-32-40 ftlbs, camshaft pulley-74-89 ftlbs.

Big Ends = 54NM + 90° +90°
Flywheel = 122.5NM
Cylinder Head = 78 NM + 90° + 90°

Valve Settings
Exhaust = 0.40 mm - 0.50 mm
Intake = 0.20 - 0.3 0mm

Blown head gasket needs to be replaced.... Whats the best way to get the head off? do i need to take the intake and exhaust manifolds off after the head is off?? its dohc on a 2.0L......also do i need to...


The intake and exhaust manifols are both attached to the cylinder head. Sneaking the head off withboth attached, is done, but you really want to know why that gasket went out. I would suggest removing both manifolds after you get the head out, and bringing the head in to a good engine machine shop, for surfacing and pressure testing. You will need to remove the cams. Make very sure that all cam caps go back on in the same position, as these are align bored, and are not interchangeable. Does your engine run hot? Is that why the gasket failed? If so adress that too, or you will be taking this journey again. Good luck, and contact me if you have any more questions. Buy one of those Haynes manuals, unless you have access to a good online repair data base.

Could not find specs for 2006 but this is the specs for 2005 5.6
  • Step 1: Bolts 9-12: 17 in. lbs. (1.9 Nm)
  • Step 2: Bolts 1-8: 17 in. lbs. (1.9 Nm)
