It is on the passenger side right behind the washer fluid fill tube. You can follow the fuel lines (look like 1/4" black tubes, some are clear) from the injector pump to it. It is a caniser a bit bigger than a normal looking oil filter and sits between the washer bottle and the metal that forms the wheel well. It is held in by a screw type clamp about half way down the cylinder. Probably isn't the fuel filter unless there is air in the lines to the injector pump or they didn't bother to fill the fuel filter up with diesel after putting it in. There is not a fuel pump in the tank in these cars so everything is sucked up by the injector pump and it needs to be primed properly.

Automatics have a higher than usual number of problems. The engine is sound and a great power plant. Electronics come in for a lot of problems in the boost and start systems.

These are usually easy fixes if the shop knows what they are doing.

Much of the tactile coating on the interior plastic fittings wear off and look ugly on black interiors as the white plastic shows through.

Change timing belt every 50,000 miles and again at 100,000 miles along with seals, tensioner and coolant pump.

A broken timing belt will destroy this engine.

5 speeds are very reliable.

Body and paint seem to last well but head lamp bulbs have a short life.

Brake lamp switch should have been updated as well as the Coolant Temp' Sensor. ( CTS.)

2006 jetta tdi oil change

Consult the Owner's Manual, or view the oil specifications on the fill cal or dipstick (usually the fill cap) located under the hood. Depending upon mileage you may not want to vary from manufacture specifications, or risk voiding your vehicle's warranty should any remain. The VW TDI's are typically high maintenance engines. I would strongly recommend staying with the manufacture's oil specifications, and do not overfill the oil in your vehicle.

2002 vw bettle tdi surging, only at idle in gear. clears up under power

is this model common rail or does it have an injector pump, injector pump has a built in lift pump and if this is weak then the transfer pressure is low which is causing scavanging.if this is the case then fitting an in line non return valve in the fuel in line can help, but more often than not fitting a low pressure in line fuel pump is a cheaper solution than an injector pump overhaul
