My Nissan maxima has 5 wires on ignition switch. how do I hotwire them to make it crank?

5 wires? I can't remember what the fifth wire would be, but you have a power-in wire - white with black stripe. The blue wire is an accessory wire- don't need that. To crank the engine without starting it, you would touch the power wire (white/black) to the start wire-the yellow with black stripe. That would engage the starter.

If you want to wire it to run, you tie the white/black power wire to the run or ignition wire-this is a black wire with white stripe. With those together, your dash gauges and warning lights will be on-the ignition system is ON. Then if you touch the yellow/black (start wire) to the power wire that is tied with the ignition wire, the engine should crank over and start.

2002 elantra no power to wipers radio head lights and heat

Please check for codes in the OBD system. Check Battery and Charging System. If no codes perform following test procedure.
Tests/Procedures: 1. Check the Black power connector in the under dash fuse box. Wiggle it with the lights on and see if they malfunction.

2. Wiggle the wiring harness from the ignition switch around the steering column with the lights on and see if they malfunction.

3. Monitor the key on battery voltage from the ignition switch at terminal 3, Red wire at the ignition switch to terminal 3 of connector I/P-E in the under dash fuse box.

4. See if the vehicle has any aftermarket accessories installed that may be tapped into that Red wire from the ignition switch to the fuse box.

What wires are connected to the ignition of a 1990 pontiac tempest

I assume you mean the ignition keyswitch. You'll have 12 Volt ignition power from the IGN fuse or fusible link. There will also be an ignition terminal and a starter solenoid terminal. If you have the GM key security system (with the little black and silver resistor embedded in the ignition key), there will be two more wires going to the engine computer for checking the resistor.
I don't have the wire identification for these, except an educated guess that the power and solenoid wires will probably be the largest ones, and the power wire is most likely red. The solenoid and ignition wires probably have different colored stripes on the insulation. The anti-theft key wires are functionally interchangeable, although they may share a one-way connector that plugs into the switch (they are probably also the smallest wires since they don't need to carry a lot of current).

Eng will not start, have fuel, power to the red wire at dist but no power to sparkplug.

the computer may not be getting a signal from the crank sensor in the distributor.i think this has a tfi ignition system on it and this module is a common problem with this type of system.also the pickup coil in the distributor goes bad and must be replaced if this is the problem.if you use a test light at the ignition coil one of the small wires should have power with the ignition on and the other wire should pulse when the engine is cranked over.if not the ignition system is not sending the correct signal for the motor to fire up.most common problem with these is the ignition module on the side of the distributer(should be grey in colour).

Anti theft malfunction

Heres the skinny....the wire around the ignition switch is actually an antennea for your anti theft transponder system. the other two wires work in conjuction with the anti theft system in that it supplies power to the ignition switch itself when your key is inserted into the ignition. Inside your key is a chip which emits a certain frequency known only to your vehicle.....when this key is near the ignition switch (ie going to start the car) the antenna senses the frequency and the anti theft system powers down and powers up the ignition so you can start your vehicle. Thanks for using fixya! Any more questions shoot me a email!

Sincerely,

JC
