Rubbing/grabbing sensation in steering at start-up

I have an 05' Grand Cherokee Limited w/ the HEMI. After initial start-up when the wheel is turned, there is a grabbing sensation in the front wheels, like the wheels dont want to rotate. It seems worse the greater the wheels are turned. When the wheels are straight, everything is fine. After about 5min of driving, it goes away regardless of speed or angle of the steering wheel. Also, it just turned 80k miles. What should I be looking for?

Stop turing the wheels when the engine isnt running.... sounds like you have air lock in the power steering system.... easily prevented by not turing the wheels with enigne off

Why do Grand Cherokee Limited 1998 over steer?

The mechanical stops for the steering may not be correct, OR it is 'normal' and because the wheel is turned so far the inside tire is really scrunched. Also try increasing the tire pressure to the max in the manual

Will an 8 inch wide rim fit my 2001 jeep grand cherokee limited

Anything fits if you increase ride height accordingly. As long as it clears the brakes it should only affect how far the front wheels will turn before rubbing the wheel wells.

EARLIER IN THE WEEK HAD TO HAVE CLOCK SPRING REPLACED ON MY 05 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE... NOW MY SERVICE ELEC BRAKE SYSTEM ANDTRACTION LIGHT IS COMING ON... IS IT POSSIBLE WHEN MY MECHANIC FIXED CLOCK SPRING...

Your Cherokee uses a steering angle sensor that is part of the clockspring, it measures how quickly you turn the steering wheel thus inducing an ABS event. It is likely that the repair is related. You can turn the steering wheel lock to lock 4 or 5 times while sitting still, this should "initialize" the sensor. If this does not work I would return it to the shop and have them recheck thier work.

Does it turn over? If not, try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it. This has worked for my Jeep before.

Jeep Grand Cherokee 2004 front end clunking

It would be kind of hard to explain, but you may want to check your wheel bearings. Sounds like your wheel is binding. If you jack the front up, grab your tire, and shake. Sort of like you are trying to turn the wheel your self with out the steering wheel. Then do the same up and down. If you have a lot of play, then your wheel bearing is shot. And with a 4WD, you have to replace it because its sealed, where as on a 2WD, you can tighten them. For the pitman arm, and the gear box, you may have to get a haynes manual to find. But the gear box will be the box that your steering shaft goes into and connects to the tierods. Not too hard to find.
