My 89 accord sei began smoking under the hood, smoke coming out the grill and even inside the car via the vents.
i checked oil and it was low. i put oil in and it quit...for a bit.
the smoke seems to be coming from beneath the cover below the valve cover, but can't see much back there.
no foamy oil, no compression lost, no mixing of oil and antifreeze.
i drove it about 30 miles and when i stopped it began smoking terribly..smells like burning oil.
is it possible the oil sending unit is bad, or something is clogged? it stops whenever i try to show someone of course.
thanks
Does it happen when the engine is hot and stops when you let the engine cool down? You may need to get under the vehicle to see where it is leaking from. If you dont have the means to do it safely then bring it to a shop, they will put it on a car lift. It could be a sending unit but it could be a head-gasket, valve-cover, or something else.
The bolts that hold on the valve covers may be loose, causing it to leak a little and burning oil. It happened to me once before. I tightened them up and no more problems. It may also possibly be that the valve cover gasket needs replacing

thanks guys! i will tighten the valve cover, although i can see the front of the cover and it appears to have no leaks from there.
i have the car up on jacks now and plan on looking tomorrow morning.
and yes, it appears to be worse when the car is hot, but sometimes just starting it up i get a cloud of foul smelling smoke too
