89 honda accord on and off oil leaks

My 89 accord sei began smoking under the hood, smoke coming out the grill and even inside the car via the vents.

i checked oil and it was low. i put oil in and it quit...for a bit.
the smoke seems to be coming from beneath the cover below the valve cover, but can't see much back there.

no foamy oil, no compression lost, no mixing of oil and antifreeze.

i drove it about 30 miles and when i stopped it began smoking terribly..smells like burning oil.

is it possible the oil sending unit is bad, or something is clogged? it stops whenever i try to show someone of course.

thanks

thanks guys! i will tighten the valve cover, although i can see the front of the cover and it appears to have no leaks from there.

i have the car up on jacks now and plan on looking tomorrow morning.

and yes, it appears to be worse when the car is hot, but sometimes just starting it up i get a cloud of foul smelling smoke too

Does it happen when the engine is hot and stops when you let the engine cool down? You may need to get under the vehicle to see where it is leaking from. If you dont have the means to do it safely then bring it to a shop, they will put it on a car lift. It could be a sending unit but it could be a head-gasket, valve-cover, or something else.

The bolts that hold on the valve covers may be loose, causing it to leak a little and burning oil. It happened to me once before. I tightened them up and no more problems. It may also possibly be that the valve cover gasket needs replacing

Burning smell inside car. Not under hood. What could it be?

I had the same problem with my 2005 Honda Accord. I would happen only sometime but is a distant odor I smell from inside the cabin. Older Hondas sometimes have gasket problems that leak small amounts of oil onto the exhaust manifold. Ask the mechanic to go check the valve cover gaskets. They replaced a new gasket to my car at the Honda dealer and I haven't smelled that burning odor since then. Good luck.

Coolant leak from radiator and white smoke coming from the hood.

Sounds like you have blown a head gasket. Do not run the engine like this or you will seize it up . anti freeze will freeze the pistons and you will need a new engine. Hope you have not ruined it now.
White smoke is a sign of water in the piston area.

I have a 1993 ford probe gt.. its starting to smoke under the hood by the passenger window its a light smoke it has an oil leak too. When I turn on my vent the smoke comes out this only happens when car...

you have an oil leak and when you step on the gas pedal the preasure inside the engine makes the oil come out faster and when it hits any part of the exhaust it starts to smoke i would find the leak and replace the gasket

Losing oil

look on your drive, are you starting your own slick, cos the US govt will bill you.....but if you are burning oil BP would like to hear from you...and you would have put so much smoke into the air, birds would need radar to see, otherwise look under the hood and see if you have a leak etc...and get back to us.

Why does my honda accord smoke reel bad

This is either worn valve stem seals or worn out oil rings. Have someone follow you if the car smokes more as you release the throttle on deceleration it is most likely valve stem seal if it smokes more on acceleration it is worn oil piston rings. If the smoke is white you have a blown head gasket blue smoke means burning oil, black smoke means too rich (to much gas reaching motor)

Hey, i am looking to buy a car and i came across a 1989 honda accord sedan with about 160000 kms on it. When we started it up, we noticed that exhaust (or some other smoke that smells like gas) was coming...

20 year old car with 160,000 miles on the odometer and it is smoking from under the hood. Walk away from this car. The smoke could be just leaking valve covers and the gas smell could be nothing more than a gas leak. But it could be something far more expensive to repair. My advice is to walk away and find a good car with no problems. They are out there, so why take a chance on what could be a money pit,
