Re: 99 E250 abs lights blinking
Check under the drivers pedals for a plastic switch around the brake pedal. This operates the brake lights. It may be out of adjustment or broken. There should be a gearshift lockout to require you to step on the brake pedal to shift out of park. There should be a switch either under the hood or dash for the shift. Check with an autoparts place and they can show you the two switches so you know what you are looking for.

In some cases, not all, low brake fluid level can cause the ABS light to come on. Most vehicles do that as a safety feature to get you to make sure you have plenty of brake fluid. It may very well be another issue but I would at least start therer before going on... Hope this helps you out. Thanks and Jesus loves you, John 3:16-17 (KJV)
Brake light switch problem may cause the ESP / BAS lights to illuminate.
Common symptoms of a bad
Mercedes brake light switch.
Car stuck in Park.
ABS ESP ETS lights come on.
Can not move the shifter from Park to Drive.
Brakes Defective Warning on Instrument Cluster
Car won't shift gears. Stuck in 2nd gear, limp mode.
Brake lights don't work. (Brake light switch can still be defective even if the brake lights work. Checking the brake light operation is not a good test.)
ESP, BAS, ABS lights turn on. Car won't shift properly. Stuck in gear.
TEST: To test your new brake light switch: Turn you car off to reset the ABS light. apply the parking brake. and start the car in neutral or park without using the brake. if the problem is the brake light switch... the light will only come on when you press the brake pedal.
If you replaced the brake light switch and the light is still on you should check a few other things such as:
Fuses and Relays
ABS wheel speed sensor
Brake Fluid Level
Get an advanced scanner to read trouble codes.
NOTE: ** You may need a MBZ scan tool to reset the error code which was stored in the ECU because of the bad brake light switch.
CHECK BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AND FUSE.IF ALL IS GOOD, YOU HAVE A FAULTY BRAKE AND TRANSMISSION SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID.IF BROKEN OR NO POWER GOING TO IT FROM THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH.CAR WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK.
the shift interlock is not releasing. You are doing emergency release procedure with engine off and key in off position.
Likely you don't have brake lights either. When you step on the brake with the key ON, it releases the shift lock solenoid (and turns on the brake lights).
Check to be sure the brake light switch on the pedal arm has the wire going to it and you can hear it click on and off.Check the fuse for the brake lights too.
There is a shift interlock mechanism that only alows the key to come out in park. It is the same mechanism that will not let you put it into gear unless you put your foot on the brake. You cannot safely bypass it.
Most Honda ABS warning light will blink in 2 parts, main system and then sub system to form the code pair. As an example is 3 blinks then 3 blinks is a code 3-5. Once determined, reference below listing. 1 - ABS pump motor over-run 1 2 ABS pump motor 1 3 high pressure leakage 1 4 pressure switch 1 8 high pressure system 2 1 parking brake 3 1 pulser RF 3 2 pulser LF 3 4 pulser RR 3 8 pulser LR 3 12 different diameter tires 4 1 wheel sensor RF 4 2 wheel sensor LF 4 4 wheel sensor RR 4 8 wheel sensor LR 5 - rear wheel lock - R/L 5 4 rear wheel lock - R 5 8 rear wheel lock - L 6 - fail-safe relay - F/R 6 1 fail-safe relay - F 6 4 fail-safe relay - R 7 1 solenoid - RF 7 2 solenoid - LF 7 4 solenoid - R 8 1 ABS function 8 2 CPU comparison 8 4 IC self-check
