First, I checked to make sure all spark plug wires were o.k.. There wasn't any visible cracks in the top of the distributor cap. So I took an old hair dryer and plugged it in. Set the hair dryer on the top of the distributor cap for about 10-12 minutes. Thats enough time to dry the inside of the distributor out. Engine starts fine so obviously there is a hair line crack somewhere on the distributor cap.

1999 GMC Jimmy will not crank when moisture in the air or raining. Cranks after several days of dry air.

What brand of distributor cap did you use? When you say it won't crank, do you mean it won't even turn over? Or just turn over and not start up?

Check the throttle body. I had a GMC and it did the same thing, had a mechanic check it and throttle body went bad all of a sudden.

Can you jumper the fuel pump and make it start and continue to run ?
Have you checked to see if you are getting spark when it won't start ?
Could be a relay or coil, ignition module, or other component.

My Jimmy won't start. I think it might be the

Try squirting a small amount of gasoline into the intake to see if the engine fires up. If it does, then the fuel pump is probably burnt out. Also, check all fuses, and inspect the fuel pump wires.

It won't die when pulling the relay because it has another power path to the fuel pump through the oil pressure switch . Plus when it won't start ,don't guess or theorize !
