On a 3.0L V6 it is on top of the intake manifold at the front of the engine under the Upper Intake Ram. On a 4.0L V6 basically the same location. just follow the Upper Radiator Hose to the intake & there is theoutlet on base engines

Aerostar, gotta' be an old one. What year? They were made form 1986 to 1997. The newest it could be is 16 years old. So, the most likely possibilities with no more info than you've provided would be that the radiator could be clogged with calcium deposits; the fan clutch could be worn out.; the water pump could be bad.

How rusty was the coolant that came out when you replaced the thermostat? I've seen those 3.0 liter Fords with the water pump impeller blades worn completely off from pumping abrasive rusty coolant. Usually rusty coolant ends up meaning a bad head gasket which pumps air into the coolant and makes an air pocket under the thermostat and keeps it from opening because the air insulates the thermostat wax element. If the thermostat doesn't open because of air pockets, engine overheats.

4.0 liter engine not so common. Different problems, what do you have? Need more information to help you more.

Where is the thermastate on my 97 ford areostar van?

No the cooling system would not have any affect on the battery.
If the engine is not warming up, the thermostat is in the water outlet where the upper radiator hose connects to the intake.

I have a 1997 Ford Aerostar, and there is a leak where the transmission is and leaks badly, a mechanic said your headgasket has blown and i just want to revise this over with you if that is true, cause i...

Blown head gasket ... you keep pouring water in ... it is going into the engine contaminating the oil ... Get rid of the car. Dont consider repairing this 14 year old car. It will cost you more than $2000.00 if you can get it that cheap. Get rid of the car.

How do you fix a blown head gasket on a 1997 Ford Aerostar?

If you go to a Autopro , or access Chilton Manuals, or purchase a AutoShop Manual for the Aerostar all information will be avalible . This is a big task to undertake and can be more costly than installing a new engine with a warranty . Good Luck.

1997 Aerostar 4 liter engine has miss on several cylinders. New wires and plugs. Miss is intermintent. Usually worse under load. At times van runs fine.

check for vacume leaks on intake and other vacume hoses. random misfire is also usually a clogged fuel filter or pressure regulator. could also be a cam or knock sensor. are their any trouble codes.
