A faulty o2 sensor will not cause a misfire. This is exhaust related, which is more than likely due to a clogged catalytic converter, which was is likely due to your misfire leaving unburned fuel to go to the exhaust, which clogs the catalyst. You likely smell a rotten egg type smell in the car at times. Your misfire is likely another cylinder. The OBDII codes are not great at finding the cylinder of the misfire in this particular car. Your best bet is to replace all 8 coils and plugs at the same time with OEM Motorcraft coils only. One bad coil makes the others work harder, meaning if you replace them one at a time, you will be constantly chasing a misfire.

SOURCE: how to install upstream o2 sensor

You just unplug the wire connector and unscrew them with,a 22mm or 7/8" open end wrench.
I assume you mean, the one closest to the engine, on the exhaust pipe.
Put Permatex Anti-Seize on the threads.

Don't just change it because you got a code. The code may be set because you got a misfire,on a COP Ignition Coil
Your best bet is to put a scanner on the car and watch the O2 Sensor Data

Car is a 2004lincoln ls v8...its misfiring in cylinders..had a tune up didnt help, computer said throttle accelerater stuck closed and sounds like transmission is slipping?????

There is no tune -up for your car

I have the same car ,V8 --- only spark plugs

You have a bad COP Ignition Coil -- give us the code PO301 thru PO308

Change the front (2) O2 Sensors at 100,000 miles

Change spark plugs every 3 years or 60,000 miles

Clean MAF Sensor once or twice a year

If the Trans Slips ---STOP USING IT -- & change the solenoid pressure
control pack, inside trans oil pan

The bad coil is spiking the PCM & the signal comes back on the TPS
Sensor & you get throttle body (TACM) codes, forget that, work on the coils

Lincoln 2002 LS has low power at higher speeds and wants to turn off at idle. Also shakes a little at idle. Could it be miss firing?

The EGR Valve could be an issue

Almost certain you will have 1 or 2 bad cop
ignition coils a year,so misfire ,yes

Could be several other problems

Need the correct spark plugs, they are special
to the LS,anything will fit,but not work right

O2 Sensors have to get changed at 100,000 miles

MAF Sensor Cleaned

V6 or V8

V8 is a lot easier to work on & less issues

Car is missing out...number 2 cyclinder not firning all the time. Replaced coil and spark plug.

You only replace spark plugs at 70,000 miles
They seldom fail to fire

Need more info on issue.

I want mileage , O2 Sensor info, Preventative
Maintainance Records ,for the last 3 years etc.

Who has worked on it and who is currently going to
diagnosed and repair?

V6 or V8?

The trouble code is P0303 on my 2003 LS V8. When engine on and gear in parking or neutral position engine working isn't optimal, it seems it hasn't enough rpms and the car is shaking a little. also the...

Disconnect and plug the vacuum hoses to the EGR Valve
and drive a few days.

I think your getting random misfires and the #3 is not
the issue,as you installed a new coil.

The PO300 codes on a L/S are not always an indication
of a bad coil on that code. I have had to walk a new coil
until I got the bad one.

Spray the MAF with CRC MAF Cleaner

If the O2 Sensors are around 100,000 replace
the front two. Don't use universal ones. You can
order from NAPA,the connectors may be a different
color and they give you 5" too much wire but are the
OEM NGK Sensors.

Meter the TPS Sensor and If you have an
oscilloscope use that. KOEO work throttle plate
