If this is a manual check the rears engine mount/ engine mounts as engine gear box movement may be pulling it out of gear.

SOURCE: the transmission slipped at a red light. Let off

First check your fluid level, that's the most common cause. Also check for any burnt coloring or anything other than fluid on the stick. Also check your service records to make sure the fluid and filter have been changed according to specs, you may need to have it serviced. If all the above fails, then you have a more serious internal problem, but by your description it seems this has been happening long or constantly reoccurring so most likely you are ok.

Either the engine idle speed is too slow or the transmission fluid pump is not delivering adequate pressure to the valve body. There may be foreign material blocking one or more passages in the valve body - a flush and fill is supposed to take care of that, but it doesn't always get it if there is too much metal dust in there.

1992 nissan pickup every so often when i am driving my gear slips and just revs real high then will it will finally catch the gear but i have to let off the gas. Why i it slipping like that?

hi there
the transmission is slipping like that cause the clutches in the ****** could be going out also gears over time can chip away teeth and this also causes it to slip i would recommend going to your local mechanic and have this taken care of if it does here and there it is going out but if you fix the problem now it will more than likely take less to fix it if you keep driving it this way the whole transmission will go and will have a higher repair bill hope this answers your question have a wonderful day

Most likely the second gear section of the transmission has gone bad. There are 3 or 4 different gear sections or assemblies in an automatic transmission, when they go bad, they go bad.

Try changing the fluid in the transmission first this may solve it, if you are not sure when it was changed.

Transmission slips when going into second

your transmission is more than likely going out. I do know that between 1997 and 2002 the transmission that went into GMC vehicles have had bad reviews. I had a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix that was doing the same thing and the transmission went out on me. I am not positive to this but i have read the research and it has happened to me before.
