Hi sjb active,

You will need to locate the idler pulley on the truck,You should beable to fit the end of the ratchet into it just under the bottom of thepulley.Look for it,either push or pull to take the tension off thebelt, this will let you be able to remove the belt,Look under the hoodcompartment their will be a diagram of how the belt will go back on.youwill probably have to remove the fan shroud. Also before attempting thistype work be sure to unhook battery.

My trooper has no electical power

First check your serpetine belt. Assure that there is tension on the belt. If the belt has plenty of tension, have the alternator checked.

2004 ford taurus chirping noise when engine revs

Hello, There are several things which can do this. First, cut off the A/C and then rev the engine as before. If the chirping goes away, the noise was either the A/C clutch or the Serpetine belt slipping with the load. For the A/C clutch, you can try a little rust removal between the drive plate and the pulley with the engine OFF. You can use sandpaper and try to knock off the rust. Then put a little oil on to condition the metal. Then try it with the A/C on.

If the chirp is still there, you have to check bearings on the Pulley tensioner, Alternator, Water pump, and Power steering. It is possible for the Pulley tensioner to have a weak spring or you may have a stretched Serpetine belt. This condition would cause the belt to skip under a load. If the belt is checked with small cracks, just replace the belt. Take off the tensioner and compare the spring tension and wobble in the pulley to a new unit at the Autoparts store.

If still no success, the chirp could be a water pump bearing. The old way off using a piece of wood on the housing of a part while the engine is running is dangerous, but effective. I believe you should have already found your problem before this measure is needed. Dry Serpetine belts make quite a lot of noise and is probably your problem.

I hope my Solution is very helpful to you.

How do I change a serpetine belt on a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville ?

be sure to view the belt diagrahm...locate the tensioner pulley and insert the drive end of your 3/8 drive ratchet into the square slot in the tensioner...move your ratchet clockwise, you should see the belt loosen...then lift off, when replacing with the new belt...install over will need to twist the tensioner pulley with the ratchet to install over the final pulley...release and belt should remain tight...again check the belt diagrahm for belt accuracy before test running...:)

What do you loosen fo a serpetine belt

You have a tension pulley. Usually you will need a breaker bar or a socket with some type of pull handle. You will attach the breaker bar or ? whatever you have and push forward to loosen the belt. Once you have it pushed forward the belt will slide off and installing is the same, just be sure to have it around all your other pulley's and the tension pulley be the last one you put it on. It's really a pulley on a spring loaded arm that tightens the belt. It's the roller that has no purpose but to keep the belt tight. If you look at all your pulleys, each one has a purpose such as the alternator, crank, air, but this will be connected to a arm with nothing more.

How to replace belt

To change the serpentine belt is very easy, If you look carefully, you will find a pulley between your alternator and air conditioning pump, this is called the tensioner, In other words the pulley that pushes down the belt between the alternator and a/c pump. Place a 1/2 drive wrench to pull the tensioner up. This will loosen the belt for replacement. Hope this was helpful Good Luck =)

Belt removal or change

i'm not 100 percent possitive but i assume you will have to loosen the tensioner to serpetine belt and it should have a adjustment and just loosen the adjustment. if thats the case you can jump the power steering belt off and back on by prying it with a screw driver and rotating the crankshaft pully
