Question about 2000 Renault 181

My Renault Espace 2002 3.0 Gasoline had a top cylinder gasket change, Since then it refused to supply fuel to the pistons. When fuel is sprayed to the piston, engine runs. But though injectors works fine, the fuel does not run to keep engine running

Hi Oulmide, Make sure of the correct setting of the valve and crankshaft timing match marks. Inspect both sensors for correct operation (crank and cam shaft sensors) as it may be that either has been damaged during the work carried out. It is also very possible that the anti theft system has engaged, especially as the battery will have been disconnected. Regards John

How much mechanical ability do you have? Replacing the head gasket on a 5 is not an easy job, and if you have water in the oil, you prob have compromised the main & rod bearings. Water & oil on the bearings makes them wear out rapidly. Plus, if you take the head off (don't pull it UP, leave a corner bolt in loose and PIVOT the head on the dowell pin, that way you will not pull up the liners), if you don't, you will unseat the piston liner seals, then you have a whole new problem to deal with. If you really want to do this, you need to remove the cyl head, and then take it to a machine shop to check the straightness of the head mating surface, and possibly the block. Then hope that the liner seals are not compromised when you put it all back together...
Overheating Renault engines is unfortunatly quite expensive.
Sorry, I do not have the torques specs.

Hi Paul, Low fuel pressure can be caused by a clogged fuel filter, a defective fuel pressure regulator or a defective fuel pump, but my problem is that low fuel pressure would not cause a vehicle to run on three cylinders. If the fuel pressure is low an erratic misfire could result, but with modern fuel injected engines they usually fail to run on all cylinders, not just one. If the misfire is erratic by all means look into the items listed above, if not, and the misfire is regular, indicating a problem on a single cylinder, have someone else do a scan and paying special attention to the spark plugs, ignition coils, crank and camshaft pick up sensors and even the management system (ECU)

If your stock engine ground strap is missing, you can install a nice big braided one between any good heavy engine bolt and the frame. As to no start, check fuel pressure with gauge, check for spark at plugs and ask again with this new info.

#5 piston not working correctly.


you may need a new fuel injector. or a intake gasket. here is a tip ;with the engine running spray starting fluid or a carb cleaner around the intake at the #5 cylinder if there is any change in idle you need to replace the intake gasket if no change replace the fuel injector
