"4-5 volts correct for all of system"??? sensor ground should be ~0,pwr supply ~5,sensor output ~< 1 with throttle closed.

Would really like to get Pin Out diagram for ECU for 95 nissan P/U 2.4 liter - 5 spd. The pink/white/Blk-green wires have different markings at the ECU from the solid colors at the sensor end,If voltages are off at ECU wouldn't ECU have to be bad?

  • yadayada
    yadayada Apr 22, 2014

Yes it is except for the fuel injectors which are 12 volts and operated by varying the ground inside the processor driver. Remember the TPS will vary between about 1 volt closed and 4.75 wide open throttle. Tap the TPS while testing to see if the voltage changes at a fixed throttle setting, if it does it is defective.

  • yadayada
    yadayada Apr 22, 2014

The ECU does provide the voltage to the the sensors.

  • yadayada
    yadayada Apr 22, 2014

Remember the wiring is likely the cause, the ECU is the last thing that is likely to be wrong, seen maybe a dozen truly defective ones in my entire 30 year career.

Google how to test a TPS.

I agree the wiring is likely the cause, have already tried a new sensor,so to check the ECU and or repair/replace wiring I need a Pinout diagram for the ECU,the wires have different markings at the ECU from the sensor end.Do you have access to ecu pinouts?

Please understand that we so called experts have no affiliation with Fixya.com and that the website only provides a portal for you to ask questions and hope someone has an answer. As far as technical material goes I have only a few manuals for my own cars which are all American brands. Your best bet is to buy access to the diagrams at one of the sites independant shops use, one that comes to mind and is designed for home users is www.alldatadiy.com.

4-5 volts is the correct refernece voltage for the system all of it.

The TPS is likely at fualt if the coonector is good and has no corrosion or broken retainers

91 3.1 car starts and runs fora minute then dies code 43 came up( fixed wire kn Sen.) now 21and 43 came up?

You didn't say what the make and model are, but if code 43 is a knock sensor issue I guess its a GM product.
Code 21 means the TPS voltage was too high, and code 43 means the knock sensor voltage was too high or too low.
Neither code would kill the engine. Just turn the warning light on.
If the throttle position sensor failed, you would get the effect of stalling on acceleration.
You may need to narrow down the possible causes to spark or fuel, and in the end it could be the engine computer. It could also be a relay or other electrical component.

I have a 1990 cutlass ciera that has been giving me problems with turning off while I'm driving. I read the error codes 13, 22, 43. Any help on what they mean and what's going on?

Hello
Here is the Factory manuals definitions of the codes:
OBD1 fault code 12- System normal/ready. This means the system is able to deliver stored OBD1 fault codes in its memory, it is not a fault code.

OBD1 fault code 22- TPS sensor signal voltage low, this means either the Throttle Position Sensor is defective or the wiring to it like the connector, the sensor is the most common issue. The TPS is located on the throttle body of the engine.
OBD1 fault code 43- Engine spark knock sensor signal problem. This can be a defective connector at the sensor or water intrusion into the connector or corrosion of the pins inside the connector body. The Knock sensor is located on the side of the engine block, it screws into what would on earlier years would have been a engine block drain plug. You must get under the car to see it. If you go to www.rockauto.com and look the the parts up there will be pictures of the TPS and the Knock sensor. The prices at the site are some of the best I have found, and i really do check around, I buy ALLOT of parts! Good Luck and hope this information helps.

Cant Find a list of codes 1989 Buick Century. Car stalls and has a rough idle. coads are 31 43 and 44

Here is a code list for you. Remember this doesn't always mena a sensor issue, the problem can be in the wiring as well, or in the case of a lean code you may have an actual lean condition due to a vacuum leak at the intake or vacuum hoses or connections. I have highlighted your fault codes and added extra notes.
GM common codes for OBD1 (for vehicles made before 1995)
12 System normal
13 oxygen sensor circuit open

On my 1991 chevy blazer s10 I get error code 43. What is it and how do I fix it

Hi, the indication is that your computer is not receiving a good signal from the knock sensor. Recommend you check the connector on the sensor and the wire. Also make sure the sensor isn't loose in the block. If those look good, you may want to just replace the sensor. A new one is $30 at autozone. Without the knock sensor signal, the computer will default the ignition timing toward a less fuel efficient value. The sensor looks like the picture below and is mounted in the engine block. You may have 2 knock sensors--one on each side of the engine. Sorry, but I could not find a good picture of the location. I will keep looking for one, though.

P0121 code, 2000 chevy astro

Given that you have replaced the TPS and the PCM, the next step would be to check the connector itself and make sure it is making a good connection and there are no corrosion or anything like that on the connector.

After that, ensure that the TPS has the correct voltage to it, usually its around 5vdc, it should never have full batter voltage to it (12vdc). The PCM usually supplies both the 5vdc reference and the ground for the TPS. Its also entirely possible that (depending on where you bought the TPS) that you were given the wrong one for your vehicle. Not a common thing, but it could happen.

The code will be set if the PCM sees a TPS angle that is not consistent with the RPMs of the engine. If you are having any shifting issues such as hard shifts or the engine having to rev higher to shift, that usually a clear indication there is still something wrong with the TPS circuit even if the TPS itself is good.

Hope this helps.

1991 chevy lumina will hardly run

DTC - 22 Throttle position sensor error (signal low), is tps connected?
DTC - 23 Intake air temp sensor error (low temp indicated) check and make sure the sensor is connected
DTC - 43 Knock sensor error, ignore this for now, will not cause rich run.
DTC - 53 System voltage too high, check reference voltage from PCM, it should be around 4.5 Volts, this could be the cause of all your problems, the computer will need to replaced almost for sure.
