Question about Toyota RAV4
Had lots of wiring problems with this Rav 4, bought new. Current issue is that at night the dash lights are very dim, you can see the change when it switch to dim at dusk,Radio light will become so low that you can hardly read the radio station.Check the light gauge switch several times and that has no effect on the light value in the Rav. I have schedule a check on this Rav, but just wanted to get some info on what might be the problem , before a pricey bill.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Most factory stereos are wired to the dash dimmer switch. Usually if the dash lights go out after an after market stereo installation, it is because the wire that originally went to the factory stereo is not used for after market stereos. Double check the fuses and ensure the wire that controlled the lights on the factory stereo is not grounding out on something.

Something similar happened to my 2005. the gauges went crazy! stopped half way or dropped completely down. Like the fuel indicator, speedometer, tach. While I never lost the radio or headlights, I did lose my dashboard lights--pretty creepy at night. My husband did some online digging and found the problem. In the dashboard gauge set-up there is a poor solder on one of the electronic components. He took the gauge center off, popped it open, found the crappy solder, fixed it, put it back in and it has worked fine ever since!!!
the ****--Ford knows about this faulty soldering and since it doesn\'t happen to ALL of the cars--just a select few(even more models we found out later)--they won\'t do a recall. Even if you take it to a dealership for them to fix, odds are they could replace it with an entire unit with the same problem. Your best bet is to fix the bad solder yourself or find someone who can.

Check with other dealers and do more internet research on the issue. It's a common problem with 03-04 Accords. We got ours replaced for free (if you're paying it can be a $600-$800 job) back in Sep 08 when car had 85K miles.
