I changed my engine block and replaced the rings and bearings but the car is smoking and using oil


  • Smoke and abnormal oil use means the car is burning oil.

    If you get smoke when accelerating hard (eg from rest or in high gear when overtaking) it means the oil is getting past the piston rings which indicates worn bores, pistons and/or piston rings.

    If the smoke appears after an over-run* it points to worn valve guides, valves or faulty valve stem seals.

    *over run = for example when you descend a hill in gear but with foot off the accelerator. The engine is acting as a kind of brake. The smoke billows out when you accelerate.

My Elantras Emission Light came and the car seemed to not go into gear and when it did it jumped very hard. Then my cd player kept losing power as i drove home. I turned the car off and now I can't...


Your car timing is off because your car manual should tell you that you need to change the timing belt every 60,000 miles when it is a interference engine. An interference engine is one that if the timing belt comes off at that time will destroy some of your valves when the piston heads comes up and so have fun replacing or fixing this car. Some of your valves and piston heads are damaged and needs to be fixed by a mechanic in your area because the head of this car has to be taken off and replaced the valves plus check all the piston heads. Rear hatch door support piston lost fluid, hatch is hard to lift. Need to know how to change.


Get replacement unit(s), find a support rod, release the clips or retainer on the old cylinder, and put in the replacement.

How hard is it to change the oil rings and piston rings in my94 saturn sc2?


on a level of 1 to 10, this would be very high up there. if you don't have expertise in building engines i would not recommend you try replacing the piston rings yourself. it requires you to remove the engine from the car and completely disassemble it down to a bare block. once you've accomplished that you then need to put it all back together the right way, make sure all tolerances are correct, and with everything torqued to specfication. There is a LOT involved when replacing piston rings so be sure you know what you're getting into before even remotely considering doing this on your own. i can tell you though that if you have to pay a professional shop to do this, it's most likely going to cost more than the cars worth to get it running properly again.

Removing the Caliper compressing the piston.


Try with bleeder cracked open slightly, pry with one hand, and while piston retracting, and you have clearance you need, tighten bleeder. As long as fluid is coming out, no air will enter right?

Did you have a hard start or no start problem recently ? If you did you were dumping fuel into engine with no spark, which ends up sitting on top of the piston & eventually running down into the oil pan. If not, my guess is you have an injector(s) leaking down while sitting. Check your PCV is clean & working as well.

Take your vehicle back to your mechanic, and have him perform a DRY, then a WET compression test. Please provide both readings back to me. In the meantime, ask him what it would cost you to him replace the piston rings. This is your problem. The 2 tests will simply verify me thinking.

Front disc brakes squeal


No it isnt.Just a little patience.take off the tire turn the steering wheel to the right for the right side brake caliper.get a long screwdriver flat head.Before you use the screwdriver to partially compress the piston make sure you take the cap off of the master cylinder resavoir!Then take the screwdriver and place it inbetween the rotor and brake caliper and compress the piston until the caliper becomes loose.Then there are two bolts on the caliper remove the two smaller bolts and pull off the caliper assembly.with either a c-clamp or brake piston compressor compress the piston with one of the old pads until the piston bottoms out.take note of the pads one is for the front one is for the back.replace the pads and then replace the calliper.repete for the other side.Before you step on the brakes make sure you have replaced the cap on the resavoir and before you put the car into gear pump the brakes two to three times to tighten the piston against the pads.thank you for using fixya
